I'm looking at getting a remington 700, mainly for the action and I will make the changes to the rifle some upfront and some over time. My local store has a Remington 700 adl ss for $480. I'm assuming the action is the same on the low end 700 as it would be a middle of the line 700. Is there any reason a stainless steel action would not be better than a blued action?

Thanks for your time. Constructive criticism is welcomed.

Re: Rem 700 ADL

If you are looking for a cheap donor, a blued adl goes for $397 for y out and $415 for full length at the big box stores (walmart, dick's, academy) price in the 40 dollar rebate from remmy for sps stocks and you have a donor that is cheaper than a barreled action.just sayin'...

Re: Rem 700 ADL

We, my buddy and I, are starting a project to build rifles. What we are doing is to shop the pawn shops and gun shows. My bud was at the Claremore, Okla. show yesterday and found three R700s for under $325/rifle.

Off topic, he picked up a Saiga 12 ga, w/ x2 20 rd drums. x4 spare reg mags, equip w/ adj butt stock, full picatinny frnt rail, all for $630

Re: Rem 700 ADL

I'll second that; I picked up a Remington 700 Varmint/ADL for use as a starter gun. After the rebate from thanksgiving, I paid $350 from Dicks/Gander Mountain/etc. Shoots a reliable MOA, came with a free scope (4-12, I think, though not anything special), and serves me well. Don't know if you can beat $350 for a barreled action.

Re: Rem 700 ADL

If you are just looking for a donor try your local pawn shop. I find 700 BDLs around here all the time for around $300 and usually with some cheap scope on it.

Re: Rem 700 ADL

I stopped by Sportman's warehouse last week and they had the Rem700 SPS ADL with scope/rings/mount for 399.99. I bought one for the action and can probably sell off the stock, barrel, scope, mount/rings for a little bit of $$ to recoup cost.

Just checked on Remington rebates and I have a $40 rebate for the gun I just purchase.

Re: Rem 700 ADL

To Update: I'm currently in the process of buying a Rem 700 Varmit, in .308 from Longbowmech with a B&C M40 Stock. I think it'll work out well to start with so I'm not having to buy a new stock right away. I'm thinking I'd like to put CDI DBM on it, but not positive yet. I'll wait till I handle the gun and decide.
