Greetings. I am wondering if my base model Rem 700 (blind magazine) can be converted to accept a detachable magazine? It's quite accurate for a stock rifle with no bedding and unfloated bbl, however, i would like to eventually get a nice stock slapped on there with a heavier fluted and floated bbl. But I see most of these stocks are for either hinged floor plate or detachable mags-of which I don't have either. So, again, is it possible to convert a blind mag into a detachable one? Besides, they just look so much cooler! Anyway, thanks for your time. Attached is a picture of my rifle in its current, all stock state to give you an idea of what i'm working with.

In short, yes. What you have (IIRC) is a 700 ADL. The ADL's can be converted, but I seem to recall that they had a slightly different hole spacing than the 700BDL/CDL line. I'm sure someone with more experience with ADL's can add to this...

Just bought and installed a ptg stealth DBM on my BDL 700 , shot it today and it worked flawless , hog that sucker out and glass bed it , just make sure to go deep enough on the rear of the tang / flush at the front ,

so the bolt will pick up the round's in the magazine , I guess it all deppends on what stock it's going in ?

I like to see at least 1/3 of the rear of the casehead when looking from the back of the rifle thru the action with the bolt out of the action , I had issue's with the bolt riding over available rd's in the factory bdl magazine ,

so I went DBM route to prevent any future issue's with feeding . from what I have seen you can't go wrong with the ptg stealth ,, Gap and some of the other professional's will do the inletting for you for 75 to 100 buck's ,

I had the time and enjoyed the challenge . Good luck with the project

PTG includes pillars with the bottom metal. Use those or measure the height and mill your existing ones to the same height.
The rest of the milling is for clearance. Its a good bit but no biggie.

I just scored a ADL in 30-06. At $125 bucks for a factory BDL assembly, I'm half way to a detachable mag setup, but am having a hard time finding mags made specifically for 30-06. I have the Wyatts for my 300wm, and 30-06 rounds just ass dive at about the 3rd round. What detach mag assembly would work here? Should I just stick with a factory BDL setup for reliability?

O'Cullkillin you can get into a ptg stealth long action version for $130 buck's and go that route + a magazine dedicated for the 30-06 , maybe another 75 buck's and install it yourself and your good to go ...

The nice thing about a detachtable setup is when and if you start wearing out your throat you can chase the lead in your throat and maintain some accuracy or not and gain some velocity from freebore , but in an 06 it'l be awhile .

I cannot seem to find any 30-06 specific magazines for the PTG metal. I called Wyatt's Outdoor, and they indicated that they sell a long action magazine with feed lips that will accommodate standard long action rounds, like .270 & 30-06.

O,Cullkillin I would call ptg and see if their stealth will work with the wyatts mag's for the standard long action rd's or are they just bending the feed lip's to get this to work on their Magnum mag's ,

also I would drop a dime and call the guy's at gap and ask them what there doing with standard long action rd build's / dbm ,,,

I have only used several S/a and a L/a for a 7mm mag ,,,, call the pro's they'l know

We have a .039 longer latch that will allow the 3.775 bolt in BDL detachable magazine combo to feed 30/06,270,284,280 . Sheila has a sale for a plug and play unite with magazine, pillars and screws for $199 . Just ask about the longer latch and special mag with altered feed lips .
