Gunsmithing Rem 700 hole spacing

Re: Rem 700 hole spacing

This is exactly why every action I stock gets measured individually.

Take nothing for granted. Get some long calipers and measure the outside to outside and the inside to inside. Subtract the hole ID from the outside measurement and add the hole ID to the inside.

Add the two sums, divide by two and use the mean average. In a perfect world they'll come up the same.

I use a height stand and special hole center gauges. I realize not everyone has this luxury so the caliper method can be used also.

The drill size for a 1/4-28 is a #3 drill (.213")

Good luck.
