Rem 700 or Savage 12 LRP?

well after playing with the plastic guns and the ar's it's time to move on to something else. Been thinking hard about building a remmy or savage. Now I'm not talking about a full build but talking about adding nice class, bi-pod, stock, trigger kit (maybe). Something to just sweeten the rifle up. What I'm really looking to do is go longer range with it. 600+ I post this on another forum that is local and one of the members suggest a LRP in 6.5 creedmore over remmy 308 SPS tactical.

Anyone thoughts?

Would be looking at a MOA or MIL (still need to do more research on this, which one is easier to use) Leopuld mark 4 variable higher than a 24 if able or nightforce. OR Sightron SIII 8-32 http://www.bigsupplyshop.com/Sightro...M_p_19375.html

harris 6-9 sbrm bipod (gotta have swivel and leg notch....and 6-9 is soooo much more useable than 9-13, believe me)

use whatever rear bag you want (i use protektors...they're cheap and very well made...i have a bunny ear custom, hard bottom)

that setup will get you out to 1000yds if need be....will CRUSH a 308 in the wind and all exterior ballistics....and the price to shoot is AS cheap as the same quality .308 ammo! Save the brass and you can sell it very very easily, or reload it down the line. "

I have a Savage 12 Palma and am looking at the LRP in 6.5CM myself. I don't think there's really a better deal for a long range setup. As far as accuracy and quality, the factory target rifles in the hands of someone like Darrell Buell can compete with any custom rig.

Add a CDI or Accurate Mag DBM and you have yourself a very nice setup for a fraction of the custom rifles we all drool over on here. Plus you have yourself a great round that has less recoil and better ballistics than the 308.

Also, look at Ken Farrell bases, very well regarded and he makes them for the 12 action.

Savage 12 Long Range Precision 260
w/ 6oz. Accutrigger would be great choice.......
I meant 6oz Accu Target Trigger
I reckon they have a 6.5 in the LRP ss well.

the savage is the go,got a rem vs700 308 and was going to rebarrel, cheaper to get LRP in 260 rem, and egw base and a sightron s111 6-24x50 moa.my ones due in december,,,,,,,,

If you can, get your hands on each gun and see which controls you prefer. I prefer Remington's controls (trigger, safety, bolt-release, etc.), my Dad really likes Savages. He loves the accutrigger system. To me, it seems a little awkward.
So, try them both if possible.

+1 to trying them both if you can, get a feel for which one you like the best and go from there.

My thoughts..

Both are accurate

I like the way a 700 action cycles better. Best aftermarket around. Limited in there caliber offerings.

Savage has more caliber/setup selections. Easy to change barrel at home (no gunsmith required). Aftermarket is getting better (if they'd stick to one action spacing).

Everyone needs a good .308.
The 6.5's are pretty sweet for longer range.

You'll end up with both.. so what do you want more?

I have a m1a scout that I use and a 30-06

I will probably build both in the long run to be honest to have that "bolt" 308.
