Recently purchased a Rem 700 sps tact AAC-SD .308 and am looking to rid myself of this green houge stock. I really dont see why they make such good rifles and put them in such bad stocks. would really like something around $300 or less. Would be for hunting and long range shooting. I like thumbhole stocks but not finding much for them. I found McM lazzeroni thumbhole sporter that I like but no place to buy it (or see the price). Any ideas would be great. And what to do with this stock after I replace it? Thanks!

First off, it would be nice if you completed your profile. That way everyone would know your location. It's possible if someone is local to you, they'd offer to meet you so you could try out their stock??

Second, I'm not sure if there are any thumb hole stocks available for the price range you've stated. Possibly a Boyd's laminate?? It's possible to sell your Houge for around $50-60 to recoupe some funds.

Finally, I'd highly suggest saving your money up to purchase a Manners T-5A. Without a doubt the most comfortable thumb hole I've handled! Check into the reputation Tom and his crew have around here and you'll begin to see why I'd suggest his product. Take the time while saving your cash to practice with your rifle. Once you get to the point of being able to purchase the Manners, you should be well on your way to having things figured out.
Welcome to the Hide!

x2 on the T5A it cost a little money but you will love it and if you dont you can get rid of it and make your money back. Plus there customer service is second to none.

Well i worked on my profile some though there wasnt much to fill in. I think Im just a little north of you Engine22. Im in platte City MO. do you work at Mill Creek Rifle Club?

I like the look of the T5A but $670?? I just dont understand how these things can cost that much. I payed substantially less than that for the rifle!

I understand the importance of a good stock and the free float of the barrel but fail to see the "need" of a $500+ stock. If the stock firmly holds the action consistently and doesnt push the barrel under pressure then what else is there?

FYI im not bitching or complaining here I just dont understand...

No, but I have another HS stock and frankly its ok but not great. Manners is worth the premium. But this is a decent compromise. You may want to contact Stocky's first before you buy from them to make sure these are on order, how long will it take... I have heard bad things from others who have ordered from them.

If you like the feeling of the Hogue stock, they actually sell an exact replica of the one that comes on the AAC-SD, except it has a full length aluminum bedding block and reenforced metal skeleton...they sell for around $240 I think....

No, I don't work at Mill Creek, just a member. I understand totally about not wanting to spend a bunch of $, but believe me (and others have said), you wouldn't regret it. Whichever you decide to go with, it'll be an upgrade from factory!
