Rem 700 sps tactical aac-sd vs ADL tactical

Hey all,

Brand new here. Looking to strike into the bolt action game and I’ve had my sights set on a rem 700 sps tactical aac-sd but recently came by a rem 700 adl tactical in Dicks with what looked like the same barreled action, just a different stock and no floor plate. I’ve seen another thread speaking on some of the differences but no one elaborated on the barrels. Is this the same rifle with the exception of the stock and floor plate difference? I’ll be upgrading anyway, so if the action and heavy threaded barrel are the same it’ll be what I get since it’s almost 200 bucks less. Thank you for your replies in advance!

I’ll look into the KRG for sure. And the ADL tactical is threaded for sure. I had one in my hands yesterday. FWIW it also has a double stud mount at the front for the sling and bipod. The AAC-SD does not if I’m not mistaken. The ADL also has a 15moa rail on top too, thought it was a nice touch for the money asked for the rifle.

Check the twist rates on the barrel. My aac sd in 308 is a 1:10 ascompared to the standard 1:12.

I should have mentioned I was looking at the 6.5 Creedmoor. 308 isn’t off the table, I’m just reading and seeing so much about the 6.5 that makes me want one. My father in law has the r700 magpul hunter in 6.5 I’ve used before and I enjoyed it. But again 308 has pretty much been king for 40+ years so I couldn’t go wrong either way.

I’d for sure take the rail off and clean the threads on both screws and holes and reinstall properly torqued with loctite. 2 sling studs isn’t worth much to me as both stocks are pretty shotty but if you need to rock factory for a bit, then again I wouldn’t spend extra money and throw the money savings towards the Bravo and the best glass and rings you can swing.

If the rail is worth keeping I’ll do just that. I checked out that Bravo. Very nice. I’m not usually partial to a green stock but that Sako green is actually catching my eye more than the others. And they offer a mil discount so for the price and what you get with it plus the discount, almost seems like a no brainer. Glass seems like it’s going to be a whole ball game on its own. No way am I going to be buying a Schmidt & bender or the like, but I can save towards something moderately priced. I’ve used the Nikon black fx1000 4-16x on my father in laws 6.5 and liked it a lot. So something in the way of offerings in that realm unless I get lucky with some extra money somehow. Navy doesn’t pay too much but they pay on time!... well most of the time! Haha!

I second that. Go krg and don't look back. B&C makes a fine stock. If I wasn't looking for a dbm, I would certainly consider one. A basic stock, like the m40 is 285 dollars. I believe you can buy them pre inletted. M5 dbm is 140. So now your at least at 425. That stock is not adjustable. B&C makes a nice adjustable stock for around 385 dollars. A krg bravo can be had for about 360.

Sorry for my ignorance but I’m assuming DBM stands for detachable box mag correct? Just trying to keep up. And those numbers make sense. The KRG is just sexier anyway, I think. I try to not be too attracted to the way something looks over its function and versatility but it’s hard sometimes!! Thanks for the input.

I’ve read good things about that scope. The new rage in that price range is the Arken 4-16, but don’t have any experience with either, but I’d check it out if was you. There’s a pretty big thread on them in the optics section.

I was taught when I was younger that I need to put glass that cost as much or more than the rifle so I’m old fashioned in that way of thinking BUT optics have come a long way since then it seems. I’ll check out athlon. Is Bushnell really making great scopes? I feel like I’ve heard the opposite but that could just be talk from people who don’t know anything in the way of glass. Looking forward to meeting some vendors here too. I’ve already had some great info here, this community seems more welcoming than some others!

Bushnell makes great scopes at the top end of the spectrum. They’ll also sell you a 50 dollar piece of crap. But the elite tactical lines are up there at the top.

Love my Athlon scope. Not to muddy the water even more for you but if going the krg route. You could even go with a howa 1500 barreled action. About 600 on brownells. After a recommendation from a friend I actually went with a bergara premier barreled action but their double the howa.

I looked at the Bergaras on their website, I’m sure I could find it cheaper somewhere else. But I may just stick with a 700 for now. The after market and support seem to be what I want right now for my entry. Once I get into it more and I deploy to Korea and collect my per diem I should be able to come home and buy a Gucci gun. GAP seems to have some amazing rifles they make but I’ve seen the ones from gunwerks etc. Lots of choices out there. Everyone needs their first beater though I feel like!

Spent a lot of time and some money that now feels wasted trying to get it to shoot. Replaced trigger and stock, shot a lot of different types of factory ammo with no better groups.

Upgraded to Bergara b14 HMR in 308 that shoots .75 inch groups at 100 out the box with factory ammo. Much better stock and trigger that wouldn't have to be replaced. I was planning on shooting this long range, but it's light enough that I have dedicated it as a hunting rifle.

In the process now of building a custom in 6.5 CM.

If I had to do it again i would have skipped the Remington. But some people still seem to find them that shoot. I may try a remage barrel on it. I already have it and my wife did buy it for me as a birthday present, so some sentimental value.

Someone actually just pointed me towards NSS and the remage barrels from criterion. That’s not the first time I’ve heard that about the rem aac-sd barrel. But I’ve also seen a lot of good. I’m feeling maybe I should spend a little more and get a lot more. It’s not a race for me. I don’t want to half ass this rifle. It’ll be my “first” and I want to make it worth it within a reasonable and feasible price.

I think that would be a good call. It's what I wish I did. Just not worth the risk on the factory Remington in my opinion.

@crossNcrew1718 If you do enough research on any rifle in that price range you’ll find a problem someone has had problem with all of them. Honestly I think the Howa probably has the best track record and I think the factory HACT 2 stage trigger is actually pretty nice. I think one of the best deals going is the Howa 1500 Bravo package, or even a 1500 Barreled Action from brown Ella our into a Bravo chassis. My factory remmy aac-sd was a hammer with federal 175 Gold Metal Match. My buddies 20” didnt like it quite as much but his was also a 20” 1:12 but still shot MOA. Ive read about issues with bergara’s welded bolt handle on the B-14 line, but I know they shoot great as well for $.

I had a Tactical ADL in 308. I dropped it into a grayboe ridgeback stock and switched out the trigger for an older walker trigger. The gun shot well. However the finish on it was crap so I duracoated it. Bolt timing was off but never really caused any issues. For the price I was satisfied.

Whats up all? I am waiting for my Magpul Hunter Stock to arrive. I am also going to purchase the Magpul Bottom Well to replace the blind magazine in my ADL. Ive seen some mixed reviews online about the action screws from the ADL correctly fitting the Magpul bottom well. Pretty much from what I've been reading is that in some instances the action screws fit like a glove and others they're off. If I have to replace the screws, does anyone know what size screws I should buy? I tried researching on the Magpul website but had no luck. Thanks in advance.

Was told the 6.5 cm ADL tactical is a dealer exclusive, comes as a threaded 24'' barrel vs the shorter AAC, mines sits in the Magpul Hunter stock, replaced trigger with a Timney 517, pretty impressive for under $1000. Mounted a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 FFP MOA. Zeroed it in and hit steel out to 1000 yards with less then 40 rounds of S&b Tactical 140 gr ammo. I'm currently up to 300 rnds +/-, no issues here. Currently putting together a Defiance/Pva/XLR/Triggertech in 6.5 cm, lets see what the extra $2500 gets us.
