Ok folks I have a Rem 721 and a chance to get my hands on a Rem 722 I want them for the actions because my shooting mentor claims they are great actions for builds I'd like to do a 6.5x06 and a 6.5 creedmoor
so question are they good for builds?

Thanks for the info

Basically they are a 700 action with a straight bolt handle and a different safety on the trigger. Maybe Robert Snyder will chime in here on the 721, since he is building my ex-270 into a 300wm. As far as I know the only big change he needed to do was mill the rear tang so the safety on my 40x trigger would fit.

I had seen 721s built as 300wm, 6.5-284 and 7mm mag long range rifles at Quantico and Camp Perry, so I figured to give it a whirl myself.

I love my 721, which has been rebarreled to a .308 Win, and has a 22-in lightweight factory take-off barrel. It is bedded in its original drop-comb stock, straight-grained walnut in original finish. Jewell trigger is set to my preferred weight. And it shoots just fine. I qualified at 1,000 yards on an F-class target with it. It has shot multiple 1/2" groups (five shots at 100 yards). The extractor is a weak point, but that can be modified adequately by a gunsmith. Real good for a mid-range target build or a first-class hunting rifle. If I was looking to build a pedal-to-the-metal rifle, I'd use a stainless Savage, one of the cone-bolt three-lug Rem modified bolts (Modern Outfitters makes a great one), or wait and buy the Tubb Adaptive Target Rifle. I've gotten the Savage action to 0.3", the Modern Outfitters MR-1 cruised to the high 0.2's on my first attempt with factory ammo, and no one but David Tubb has tested the Tubb ATR, although we all know it will be as good as humanly possible.

Thanks guys for the thoughts like I said I have a 721 and I'm thinking about getting a 722 to make a custom gun probably a hunting rifle
