my stepdad has a Remington 722 in .222REM that he used to shoot bulleye matches with years ago. it's a factory barrel but it's very accurate. he was hand-checkering a benchrest stock for it but never got around to finishing it.

I'd like to do something nice for him and I'm wondering if it's possible to rechamber this into something like .223AI and if that would be worthwhile. any suggestions?..

If his barrel shoots as good as you say I wouldn't do it. I don't think the juice would be worth the squeeze in a sporter length barrel. The old barrel twist rate would also influence my decision.

ah, I didn't even think about the twist. probably 1:12 or so. good point...

well, I'm no good at checkering so I'll have to come up with something else. maybe just replace the barrel altogether?.. not much fits on that bolt head...
