Does a smith adjust the trigger while its in the rifle or is he able to adjust/customize it when its out and also test it for function without it having to be in the rifle?

Was thinking of buying a used Remington 700 trigger for $45 and then having the smith work it over but I don't have the rifle done yet. I'm really just trying so save a little money here and there to off set the action I'm buying.

I mean, is a Jewell or similar that much better? I have heard many people prefer an "old style" over a custom.

    Please school me.

By the time the smith reworks your $45 trigger you are likely going to have another $35 to $50 into it ending up at darn near $100. Spend the extra $30 or $40 bucks and buy yourself something like the Timney. And forget about it.

To me you need to ask yourself how light and what are you going to do with it?My stock trigger on my Model 7(Same as 700)is set at 1lb 2oz and will hold even if I bounce it.The most important thing that I can tell you is if you have light triggers.Don`t let anybody borrow your gun and always tell the person and pay close attention if somebody else is shooting your gun. Most people think a 3lb trigger is a 8oz trigger.Even my 22mag is set 1lb 1oz.My 22Hornet is 14oz.Light triggers are like drugs once you try one you have to have them on everything. My son was wanting to get on the shooting team at school but I didn`t have a 22LR with a heavy enough trigger!LOL

Are you in NC?If so PM and maybe I can help you.Another thing if I sell a gun the trigger is turned back up even if I have to order the parts to do it.Just about everybody that I trust enough to shoot my guns(while I am there of course)on the first shot after it goes off says "I wasnn`t ready".That is after I tell them it is light with little or no creep. In the end it is what you get used to.

Yeah, the trigger will be used in a tactical/paper gun. Probably keep around 2 1/2-3 lbs.

    Pm inbound.
