Rem XCR or Rem SPS .308

I have the choice between a used XCR 26''with a B&C stock for 925$ , or a SPS with the rubber stock on Buds for 631$ shipped and including the FFL charge. The Xcr needs the barrel cut and threaded, and the action trued. The SPS needs a non Hogue stock and the same threading and truing done. I really like the manners stocks, but they cost another 827$. The XCR has a B&C stock that could work for a year or so. This will be used for hunting and long range shots for fun at my Father's ranch. Maxium range 650 yards. Just looking for some thoughts from the think tank here on SH.

I have an SPS tac in .308

I routinely shoot well under .5 MOA with the factory trigger/stock...everything actually.

Decent hand loads and shooting/practice would be the first thing I would suggest. Throwing money at it is not what my first idea is after buying a new rifle(optics aside)

Spend the money on ammo and getting used the rifle. You may find as I have, that getting used to a rifle is the first thing to do.

Your money, your rifle. Just my .2 though

+1, get the tac and shoot it and save your money for the upgrades you want instead of buying an upgraded one you want to change

The XCRs are stainless steel construction, come with an adjustable 40X trigger, and have a pretty good stock. That is a much better out-of-the-box gun, so I'd spend my money there. If those two aren't your only choices, get the get the threaded 20" 5R for only $50-75 more.

Take a serious look at the AAC-SD. It is 20" threaded and has a 1-10" twist.

Bud's has it for $630. Just need to change out the stock. I went with a AICS 2.0 chassis
