Brought home my remington 700 yesterday and before I make my decision on a scope I want to go ahead and have the mounts picked out, cheek pad, etc.

So what mount? I am getting a 30mm tube and would prefer to be set up on a picatinny rail system, no real purpose, just preference.

you left out caliber, long or short action, distance you expect to shoot at, what drop you would like.....etc.

If 20 moa is preferred either Badger Ord or USO. I own both and swear by both.

All of the top brand stuff is good. Badger, NF, USO, Seekins. Nothing wrong with EGW either, for the price. Just figure out what you wana spend and have at it.

CleanMoostang,

Pick scope first, then base and then rings. Why you may ask? Cause some scopes need a extended base, and some don't. Some scopes might let you get by with a 0 MOA, some a 20 MOA, some a 30 MOA or 40 MOA would be better.

As to ring height, gots to know what scope first, before you pick....

So as in horse before cart, scope before mounts......

well today I decided that for starters, since this will be my first rifle to attempt LR shooting, I will be going with a SWFA SS 6x42 or 10x42, not sure which yet. They are both reasonably priced for me to begin with. Hope this helps narrow down my choices.

+1

I just got my Seekins rail and rings in 3 days ago for my new 700. Quality is top notch, spendy but worth it.

Re: Rem700 is home, now I need mounts!!!

Yeah im thinking Seeking 20MOA with the 30mm medium or medium high rings.

My scope selction is the same as the OP, Super Sniper 10X42 i just dont know which way to go, medium height or medium-high height

Suggestions are welcomed.

6X may not be enough for actual long range. 10X may be better for you. Good luck. By the way, i used TPS rings and rail. No complaints.

Re: Rem700 is home, now I need mounts!!!

Thanks everyone, Ill be looking at Seekins within the next few days and probably ordering.

Can anyone please explain the 0-10-20 MOA details I am seeing on the specifications of rails and mounts? I know this isnt the place to ask and learn but figured I would since it is about the product I am buying.

Re: Rem700 is home, now I need mounts!!!

0moa, 10moa, 20moa, etc is the cant of the base which provides you with some built in slope with your scope so you can use more of the usable elevation adjustment where you need it (for bullet drop vs rise).

As to short action/long action, depends on your chambering and action. If you have a 223 (based on your signature line), you have a short action.

Re: Rem700 is home, now I need mounts!!!

If it's a .308 you want a short action and as far as the MOA most people use a 20 on their 700's. It's basically the amount of elevation built into the rail. It really depends on the range you want to shoot at but like I said most go 20moa. Also You could probably get away with the low rings on a 42mm scope... Call Scott at Liberty Optics. He'll help you out and answer your questions.
