My Rem700P 308 trigger is pretty heavy. Should I get that adjusted and a trigger job by a gunsmith, or just buy an aftermarket trigger?

If the latter, any suggestions? Lots of brands and model out there...

Re: Rem700P - Trigger Job or Aftermarket?

My gunsmith actually adjusted mine when I didn't ask and he took out the creep. So with it at 1lb it makes for a pretty decent trigger. Gives me time to save up for a rifle basix

What kind of trigger is it? XPRO?. Consider getting one of the older remington triggers or get a timmey and call good to go.

If its an X Mark pro or whatever the supposed 3lb factory set externally adjustable p.o.s. is called, try adjusting it, when it doesn't actually adjust get a Timney.
If its an old style, look it up and adjust it, or have a smith do it, do not cut corners on the safety checks, you can take it too far.

I have a .300 win mag police. Had a muzzle brake put on and the gunsmith threw in a trigger job for free. It now has less pull than my GAP. Just be careful wearing gloves. Happy Thanksgiving

The 700 trigger can be adjusted fairly good. You may want try adjusting it yourself first before going to a smith or ordering a new one. Do you have the older 3 screw style or the X-mark?

I run Jewell triggers in both my F Class rifles. For a tactical rifle, this is not the best choice. For those, I prefer a tuned (older) Remington or the Rifle Basix set at about 2.5 lbs.

Re: Rem700P - Trigger Job or Aftermarket?

I for one am not an X mark hater. I adjusted mine down, not sure of the poundage, but it's light enough for me and breaks without a smidgen of creep.

One caveat: While I did not grow up on the old style 700 trigger, I do prefer the shape of the old trigger. The X mark is distractingly narrow vs. the old 700's wide, ridged design.
However from a functionality standpoint, the X mark works nicely enough that I see no need to spend money replacing it. YMMV, as always.

Just buy one of these Jewells with the bottom safety.

You mean you adjusted per the instructions or you modified it so you can adjust it lower than what the factory settings are?
Oh btw, Im a Xmark Pro trigger hater.

Re: Rem700P - Trigger Job or Aftermarket?

I'd recommend you start with the original trigger, and see if you can make it suit you. The older ones are pretty nice! If you lack instructions I can send them to you, or give you a link. If you have ANY mechanical ability, and can follow three lines of instructions you can do it yourself.
