neither i like parts of the Sako system and also like the rem 700 but for the price i would get a custom rifle built with the stock i want, the mag system i want probably Morta mags manners stocks and also the barrel length and profile i like not what is produced by a marketing person to suit the masses.

it also depends on what you want to use it for the Sako is probably more versatile and has larger detachable mags.

I have owned both purchased both as new rifles. I have owned many very fine rifles and these two were the most accurate hands down. I cant say any thing bad about eighter one , however I donot have the 40 xb Tactical any more, I now shot the TRG and have no regrets getting rid of the 40x. Its hard to say the TRG is a more accurate rifle but it is easiest to shoot accurately. The ergonomics of the TRG are hands down better than any rifle out there for me , and I cant think of any I havent shot. The trigger especially and in general the overall quality of the TRG are the best. For a rifle to be counted on to make first round hits with out question get the TRG and dont look back! I dont want to sound like a know it all because I dont , I know there are more accurate rifles out there as far as ability to group on the range (not by much) but after all things are considered: accuracy, ease of use in all conditions and weather, reliability, ergonomics, ect. Ill put the TRG aginst any system out there. Now all this that I am saying is based on my real time use of the many weapon systems out there, I cant think of any system out there I havent atleast spent some range time with, you may feel a little diffrent this is just my experences. I hope this helps.

The way the rifle fits you is the most important factor in choosing IMHO. But if it were me, I'd get the Remington. Here's why: Lots of aftermarket options for the Remington... But most importantly MADE IN THE U.S.A.!

If price and waiting were not factors, I definitely would also get the Sako TRG-22. However, here is my situation.

The following rifles are readily available at the store:

1) about $2600 for package: Remington 40-XB tactical with harris bipod, pictanny rail, 34mm scope rings, and variable power 10X store scope (worth about $200). I would probably sell the scope and get a better one, but still.

2) about $3300 for package: Remington 40-XS tactical with pictanny rail

The Sako TR-22 would have to be ordered, and cost about $2700 for BASE rifle, no rail, rings, bipod, etc....and there would be a 3-6 month wait. Optic rings would cost additional $500+, bipod $600+, sling swivels and mounts etc additional costs.

I'm leaning towards getting the 40-XD for overall cost savings, but if the Sako or 40-XS are much better...then...

What do you think?

I owned 1 40xb tactical and have 2 friends that have the same rifle (all three are the hs precision stocked, 27 1/4 inch 1-14 twist barrel) all 3 were very good shooters sub 1/2 moa with no modifications! To say the TRGs are that much better, well as far as putting accurate rounds down range and being reliable, no they are not. But for me the TRG is with out a doubt better, I wish I could accuraitely put into words but the best advice I can give you is get behind each one. I know its hard to justify the price , I went through the same thing (for along time) but now after having owned one for 1.5 years I am completely happy and I cant think of any system I would trade the TRG for regardless of price. The only thing I would change is poss. the caliber (to a high bc 6mm or 6.5mm) and possiably shorten the barrel. If you decide to go with the 40xb you are still making a VERY good decision. I have owned remington based rifles from a few of the biggest named builders and they are awsome but the factory 40xb was just as good. Good luck with your decision, if you are in Maine let me know and you can shoot my TRG, I may be able to line up a 40xb to compaire it to.

i own a 40xb tactical in 308 that i have dropped into an aics with s&b glass on top and have to say i love it . i have to say though that ive only ever fired 2 shots from a trg so cant really give a fair comparison between the two.That said if you do go with the remy you def wont be dissapointed, its a hammer and shoots better than i am capable of driving it.

I'm curious as to why there will be a 3-6 month wait on the TRG. You should give Alex Roy at Euro Optic a call and see what he can get you. He usually has many colors and barrel lengths in stock ready to go. I got mine in 4 days. As to which is better...you are really comparing apples to oranges. I have owned the remington as well, but there is truly NO comparison. The accessories are fairly pricey, but you can substitute others for the sako brand.

Parts:
Bipod-Harris or ATLAS (with the soon to be released spigot)
Mags-AICS mags will fit the TRG-22
Scope base-Get a NEAR manufacturing rail

The TRG-22 is more robust than anything remington puts out. I love buying US made, but the TRG and AIs are in their own league.

I have experience with both rifles and am a very big fan of Sako rifles but in that case I would take the Remington in the package you mentioned hands down I really like Remington's custom shop and know they will do the best job they can on each and every one of them I am sure you will enjoy this rifle and he will serve you very well.

Good luck with any choice you make and I would really like to see pics of the Remington if you choose him eventually

Checked at all the stores in town, and correction Sako TRG-22 are going for $3200-$3400 just for base rifle, with a 6 to 9 week wait.

Also checked out Steyr SSG 04, FNH SPRs, Tikka T3 tactical.

I just could not justify the additional cost of Sako over Remington, plus not to mention for rings, bipod, sling loops, etc..etc.

I decided to go with the Remington 40-XB because of the package deal. Also picked Remington because of "aftermarket" parts if I ever decide on getting an accuracy international stock, or need a new barrel, etc. At first, I thought that I would have prefered a box mag, but then figured the hinged floorplate mag was actually a plus, since I will be using for hunting and target shooting only and would likely forgot the mag at some point.

I was given credit for the store scope that came with rifle package and switched it out for a Nightforce scope. So, by my calculations from internet searched best prices, not including shipping costs, I should be saving close to $550 overall.

This is what I'm getting:
- Remington 40-XB tactical
- Harris bipod
- Picatinny rail
- Nightforce 30mm scope rings
- Nightforce 3-15x56mm 1st-focal plane with mil-dot, zero-stop & mil-radian turrets

I would go with the Sako based on what I have seen them do right out of the box. No mods needed.

Don't take this sarcastically...I really hope you enjoy the Remington. However, you really didn't take anyone's advice into account if you are using the $3200 price figure and 6-9 week wait into account. I stated you could get them in a couple days and someone else stated that the cost would be much less from Alex at Euro optic. I ordered mine in December for 2535 SHIPPED to my FFL. I already had a scope, so no worries. The scope base and bipod set me back around 200. All in all 2700 for a TRG package.

Again, I really do hope you enjoy the Remington. If you are going to come to this site for advice at least make some phone calls and act on it.

Not even in the same league.I have owned quite a few 40X's and dozens & dozens on 700's and ther is MO comparison in terms of quality. NONE_ZERO_ZIP_NADA!.

TRG bolt has 3 lugs, only a 60 Degree throw vs 90.
TRg has very nice DB Mags (not cheap but sturdy).
TRG has a user adjustable 2 stage trigger that is Superb.
TRG stock is far better than the Rem stock IMO.
Resale for the TRG is far better than a 40X.
TRG has threaded muzzle with cap.
Never heard of a TRG Not shooting lights out!
I have owned a few and every one was a 1/2 moa or less rifle with handloads. If you shot both side by side...you'd buy the TRG..unless you were hung up on the "American made" thing or needed to have what the US military uses.
Don't worry about the Expensive Sako scope base, bipod and muzzle brake. I had a base made for 1913 Mil base made for under $100. Used a Harris bipod for $60 and there are a shitload of aftermarket muzzle brakes available too.

Just because he asked doesnt mean he has to do specifically what "you" said or think. Based on funds available or need for a particular level of robustness that drives a decision, fine, but if you're looking for a longrange rifle you won't be jumping.... a .5 or less MOA rifle in the 40-XB is hard to beat for the price. Post some picturs when you get to the range vkc!

This will be my last post in the thread. Reading comprehension is obviously lacking here. The OP posted his reasoning for getting the 40-XB over the TRG. However, none of that information is even close to correct. He is 600-800 dollars off what he can really get a TRG for and 4-6 months off on wait time. If you look at what was posted earlier, good advice was simply discarded.

If someone is already set in what they are going to do then don't ask those types of questions here. The TRG is a superior system in all respects and he could have one fully outfitted for near the price he is paying for the 40XB fully outiftted. He could also have it in 4 days. I never said he had to do what "I" said, but nearly all the advice in the thread pointed him to the TRG. He then proceeded to not act on any of the information and sit back in his assertion that he was going to wait 4-6 months and pay in the mid 3s for the rifle.

I ask my wife the same thing when she asks me for my input. "Do you really want my opinion?" If she doesn't then there is no harm. If she does and then simply discards it then I get a bit frustrated.

At least he could have called Alex at Euro Optic or a couple other places I know have good prices on the TRG and asked about price and delivery time. Then, we he comes back on here and says he checked and he still can't justify waiting 4-7 DAYS and paying the mid to high 2s for a rifle, that's fine. At least you did your research. Personally, my money is too precious to shell out without fully investigating the entire market for the best price.

There are many reasons to buy a rifle over another no matter the cost or wait. Just don't attempt to use BS values to gloss over the real reasons for purchase. As I said before, I hope he enjoys the XB.
