Remington 700 5R SS Milspec

I'm trying to make a decision between the Savage 10FCP-K or the Remington 700 5R SS Milspec.
After doing a little research it looks like it comes down to a chevy verses ford thing.

My question is if I wanted to go with a Remington 700 5R SS Milspec where do you get one? I'd like to buy new
and I can't seem to find one. Any ideas on where to start looking for one. I'd like to get it through my local ffl
so if you have any distributor names that would be great

Check gun broker. And the Savage is not in the same league as the 5R. Really like a Corvette vs. Focus.

I just got a 5R for $950 shipped to my dealer from Schupbachs Sporting Goods. They had one left last week when I ordered mine, the guy's name was (Matt 517-782-8418)

the savage 10 with the McM stock (not sure of the exact model)is about in the same price catagory and while not as strong, not as smooth, not as pretty as the Remmy (and I am a Remmy fan) I'd bet money the Savage will outshoot the Remington.

I wanted a 5R once. Then the people on this site showed me that for the same price, I could get a Savage 10FCP McMillan. Both guns cost about a grand, but the Savage had McMillan A5 stock, DBM, 1:10"
barrel, better trigger, and is just as if not more accurate than the 700. The 5R is a good gun and is stainless which is nice but what steered me away from it were the complaints about the HS stock and the new Remington triggers.

The Savage with the McMillan stock only has the edge with the stock IMO. I'm not a huge fan of either trigger, and to me the difference between a 1:10 and 1:11.25 twist on a .308 is not worth worrying about.

I've owned both (tuperware stock on the Savage 10FP though) and to me the 5R was more accurate.

IMO I'd go 5R and restock.

The 1:10" may or may not be important, some have fired 200+ gr bullets in 1:12" and they have worked. I do like to have peace of mind though KNOWING that 208s will be stabilized. But you're right that it may not be an issue at all for some shooters, especially if they are going to use 155/175s.

I have a 5R and a Savage. They both will rag a hole at 100 yds but I for -.5o MOA you need a better trigger on both. They are both great shooters.

Hello, a friend of mine showed me his 5R about a year ago and at our shooting club, now we have 5 people that owns them. Every one of them shoots very good with Federal ammo. We have had one
of the newer guns with the double palm swell stock that cracked at the front pillar, HS fixed this without a problem. We also had one that had the new x-mark trigger would not adjust down far enough. Fixed that by replacing it with a Jewell trigger.
I have seen these guns shoot 2.0 to 3 inch groups at 500 yards
quite a few times at the range just off of bags or a bipod. I would say its a very accurate gun for the money.
