Bought a model 700 ADL SA in 243 for 321.50, can't beat the price!! I want an aftermarket stock with the detachable mag kit also. I'm having difficulty understand which stock works with which detachable mag kits. I've seen the PTG and AICS to be the cheapest price but are they worth going the cheap route? What stocks drop in with a decent guard and in the 700 SA??

I'm new to building, if you couldn't already tell

Any stock with a short action footprint and a detachable mag system will work with your ADL. Chassis systems are usually drop in fit, and already have a detachable mag system built in. Stocks like Manners/McMillan need an aftermarket mag kit, such as a Badger M5, the stock will also need inletted to fit the mag system. While your having it inletted you should have the stock pillar bedded and the action bedded also.

Don't forget the XLR Chassis

Your question is it worth going the cheap route, none of it is really cheap, the thing with chassis systems like AICS or XLR some people love them some hate them.

The best advice you can get on stock selection is go to a local match talk to shooters about their rifles, ask if you can get behind it and get a feel for the stock. In my experience most shooters are more then willing to give you that opportunity, and love to talk about their equipment.

I would order a manners stock that has badger pattern bottom metal, then order ptg bottom metal to use aics mags. If you shop you can be under 650 easy. Full retail you will push 700. Then bed the action properly and you are set.

For the money, the bell and carlson stocks are a good value and work with some drop in kits available from stockys.

However, much to Boxcars point I would try to get behind any stock your thinking about purchasing. I love the Accuracy International Chassis System but it's not everyone's favorite choice.

Bell and Carlson stock, Wyatt's DBM metal. It should be a great combo. I have said DBM on my m700p 223. It works great.

And, yes...Boyd's makes a good product. They likely will be some inletting finish work to do, and you should definitely bed it as well.
