Re: well after a month of talk i did it

Picked mine up yesterday! Aside from the stock I am very impressed with the overall quality and handling of the rifle. 8541 Tactical did a great video series on their website of a budget build using this rifle. The action is very smooth for a brand new 700. I don't know what scope base you want but SWFA has Seekins 20MOA base in stock (Seekins does not and will be out of stock for a few more weeks.)

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

SWFA does not have them in stock. I tried to order one Monday and did not know they were out of stock till Wednesday? I inquired when I did not receive a confirmation about shipping. I had already tried Seekins.
Midway was out also so I ordered a Badger. I figured oh what the hell? I am happy with it, got it in the mail and it looks good!

I saw the same video i agree very well done. I like the stock just not the color. i believe in his video he said it was a bedding block stock it is not it is a pillar system, disappointed to say the least. that's the only down fall to the whole thing.

going to lath me up a handle hopefully this week and put it on if i have time (Got to go to gainesville fl VA for some test Monday - Friday a Video Montering EEG??) ordered a GEW 20moa rail, the reloading dies, Harris bi pod, for it last night. going to see if they have a stock in gainsville and a vortex scope. I cant afford anything more than about 700-800 bucks for a scope at this time and i heard that vortex is way to go just as good as mk4 but not the $$ would love to have a S&B..or S$B (lol) or us optics but i don't have the $$. then save my Penney and get a can.

got pics on my phone will publish when i can get the off and on o my PC lost the dam data cable

sooo......

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

Range report,

took the acc-sd out to range today, burned in barrel and began to 0 in scope.

after that started shooting 9 shot groups, 3 rnds, with a wait time of 4-5 mins the 3 on top so on so on

1st 9 shot group = reloder 15 powder 40 grain with 150 grain bullet 1.25 goup with 1 flyer

2nd 9 shot group = reloader 15 powder 40 grains with 168 grain bullet .86 group 1 flyer

3rd 9 shot goup = reloader 15 powder 40 grains with 175 grain bullet .68 group no fliers

4th 9 shot group = reloader 15 powder with 40 grains with 185 grain 1.14 with 2 fliers, i think one was me

result i believe that the stock is touching the barrel but i could be off, i set the trigger pull on the xmark trigger to 3.0 lbs, might take it down a little, it was 4 out of the box. as well im going to go back and focus on 168 and 175 grain bullets, also i believe im going to up the powder in the reloader 15 to maybe 43-45 grains. will keep posting

I will be trying out different powders as well, that's just what i decided to start with.

also the as on the reason i decided to start with 40 grains is, because i tested my dipper that came with my die set, and on my scale it averages 39.5-41 grains of powder, it is a 2.8 cc dipper, i want to try to load to what i have on quick hand, may be in situation that i might not have access to scale, field expedient is what im trying to float toward, who knows might be using hand press loader and so on....

Hey Cowboy, where are you shooting at? I should be moving over to Orlando pretty soon and I'm not sure what ranges are around over there and/or what distance they go to. I don't mind driving to the range I typically shoot at now but I'd also want a range nearby if possible. Thanks!!

Shooting at gateway in Jacksonville but their ranges in the Orlando, Deltona, Lake Mary area. Bradford sportsman farm probably the best it's 15 - 20 mins south west of stark fl abut a 45-1 hour run depending what part of Orlando u in. They go to 850 rest go 200 tops. Pm me when u get settled in

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

I believe I have the over mold stock problem that the tactical, police, and acc-sd have. It's where the stock tags barrel because of the lack of reinforcement webbing in the forearm of the rifle especially when you reverse load the bipod. Tuesday shoot I loaded bipod forward witch pulled stock tip away from barrel, today I flipped the bipod to see how it felt in reverse position, pulling the weapon toward myself. Rifle shot like it came from red jacket firearms.

Not major issue ordering stock any way but it's on back-order so I'm going to probly just bite the bullet call midway and pull back-order order and get a AICS or a McRee on order later this week. Don't want on the stock i have on back-order sense it will be posibly 4 more weeks, I shot one at the range today a guy had like the one i have on order,a older style but i wasn't a fan. I like McRees but the out of their 10 rnd mags. Going to call Mile High tomorrow if they don't have I'll do the switching on the midway order.

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

Looks good, Cowboy. I ended up snagging the same rifle used for $500. The store said it probably had never been shot. Customer routinely buys rifles, never gets around to shooting them, and returns them for a trade in. Guy at the counter actually looked at the price and doubled checked it.

Scope, ring and base will be here today. B&C M40 stock is being shipped today. Your initial groups look good. Can't wait to get mine to the range.

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

Over all I've read yalls post and am considering buying the sps when I get back in from off shore. The over mold problem y'all are talking about it's just at the very fore end or does it do this all the way down? And is the rifle in yalls mind worth buying? It will possibly be the first Remington bolt I would own just curious if it's worth trying

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

Yes. The problem with the Hogue Overmold is the forearm isn't stiff. Just the weight of the rifle pushes the forearm up into the barrel.

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

The 178's are running great out of mine. Only running around 2575 out of the 20" but shooting less than 1/2 MOA until it gets really dirty.

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

Man that's a prett good trick Im for sure gona have to try that if I decide to get the sps seems like it shoots exelent out the box not sure who that was direct to but it's really good info specially since it worked. I know I appreciate the info

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

I know everyone here has there own ways to skin the cat ..
I used a hogue on a budget hunting rifle. I milled( dremel) the ridges inside the forearm out, ground into it a little bit. Wnet to the local gander mtn bow counter.. got some carbon fiber arrow cutoffs(free) and bedded the shafts into the stock, from recoil lug forward. let that setup. and smoothed everything out with more devcon. Put the barreled action back into the devcon with three layers of masking tape for clearance. So far they have been using the rifle for a few years, no complaints, a ton stiffer and if it shifts point of impact due to a sling or bipod noone has noticed. Just another idea ( cheap/free) think I have 10 bucks in devcon and a few hrs of time..

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

I love mine. It's a solid .75" to .9" at 100 rifle with my handloads. I'm not a great shooter.. I'm sure bedded and with someone better than me driving the rifle it'd be better.

B&C Stock, Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 EMDR mil/mil, Weaver rings, Weaver base. Soon to have CDI bottom metal.

The B&C Medalist is an amazing stock for a little over 2 bills.. solid, better cheek weld than the Hogue, and it feels really good in my hands.

Re: well after a month of talk i did it

i called midway and i gess they pushed the Tac-21 back agin so I bought this off of lr-wsm.....

Thats a good idea too, i wish i would have took some lead off of my ingots i have for reloading and weighed it down like some one said in that reinforcement forum but o well... good idea again though.
