Remington 700 Stock choice

After viewing LoneWolfUSMC's Mail Call Monday series about a budget precision rifle I was wondering.
If you are going to put a Bell and Carlson stock and a Surgeon Magazine System on a Remington 700 would it not cost about the same to go ahead and put a Tactical Evolution Chassis on the rifle instead (I believe both setups come with one magazine). What are the advantages/disadvantages to the Bell and Carlson/Surgeon combination over the Tactical Evolution Chassis. Hoping John will see this because I am interested in him input as well. I could not figure out how to ask the question directly on Mail Call Monday.

I guess the big question is what you want to do with your rifle. Hunt, target, compete, shooting prone, from a bench etc. Those are all factors when deciding which type of stock to choose.

Or you could use a less expensive Bottom metal? PTG for instance. That said if I was to do my R700 again instead of stock, inletting and bottom metal. I'd go straight to a chasis set up. Depending on the components you use and the chassis you pick you either break even or spen a bit more on the chasis.

Thanks for the replies they have been helpful. To answer the questions, don't hunt, but love to target shoot and compete....against myself. I am too old and arthritic to compete against you young bucks. Now, I can get down and I can get back up, but by the time I do that a couple of times everybody else has finished the course and are rolling their eyes

I shoot from a bench but mostly just to site my guns in. After I get them sighted in I like to shoot from various positions. I will slip John a PM.

If you like to target shoot and don't hunt, go for an AICS 1.5. BTW, John's a big fan of AICS.

I chose the XLR chassis and have been nothing but pleased.

When you consider the cost of a fully adjustable B&C stock (465), PT&G DBM and inlet(190), the XLR actually comes in around 100 more(750).

That said, the M40 stock from B&C is a very nice stock for about 230.
