Re: Remington 700 Target Tactical

You cant go wrong w/the Remington 700. It is a quality action with an incredible level of versatility with respect to upgrades and customization. In addition, there is no shortage of top notch gunsmiths with tons of experience w/the 700 platform available to help you make it your own.

Like you said, if the barrel is not to your liking, it can always be swapped out for a match grade tube.

buy a varmint 308 and get the stock seperate. I've got $875 into mine.

Accuracy is under 1 moa. If it doesn't shoot rebarrel it.
If you go the route I did you will still come out under the price of the target tactical when you rebarrel.

Re: Remington 700 Target Tactical

Hello Ladies and Gents,
Took it out to the range today. Mostly spent the time getting it sighted fire off a few rounds and then clean rinse and repeat. It’s been some time since I have shot so I won’t embarrass myself by posting my groups but in all it shot very well.

On the down side I was almost kicked from the range for apparently breaking one of the rules. Since it is a outdoor range when someone walks out to check targets we call a ceasefire and most of the time guys will take this time to either check their own or post new targets out.

When I walked out to the target stands I took my rifle with me . Now I must say the bolt was open.. one hand on the barrel and one on the butt end of the stock… safety on and it was aimed at the ground. When the range master started to yell at me coming unglued. He said to me that I had to leave my rifle on the bench since to him he could not tell if it was loaded or not and I was endangering those around me taking the firearm downrange.

Now I just dropped about 2k for the whole setup which to some maybe a drop in the bucket but to me this was about 2 years of saving up bonus cash and lots of side work and I am not to keen on leaving it on the bench while I walk out 100 yards out to the range with a bunch of folks I am not familiar with that can split with my gun in 2 seconds.

I can see the whole safety thing just was kind of surprised that he was yelling at me like if it was some 3 year old running around pointing in the direction of someone but I was practicing safe handling of the firearm, but alas since I am in his house I did exactly as I was told said all my sirs and no sirs and called it a day. So from now on ill go with a shooting buddy that can stay behind with the arms.

I’ll be back out on Monday to send some lead down range. Working on my trigger pull and breathing shot placement and so on but over all I really like the rifle.

Re: Remington 700 Target Tactical

Bigzam, if you post your location, I bet you'd find more than one offer in your inbox to go to a range. I've met a couple of good guys on here.

I understand your concern, and to be completely honest, its always best to go to a public range with a shooting partner. If something catastrophic happens and no one there knows you, you could have a real mess on your hands. Besides, you'd be surprised how many people that don't even own a gun would love to go. Plus you always have a witness for that .118 inch group that no one believes you shot!

And BTW, congrats on your new purchase. Welcome to long range precision shooting.

Thanks brand692
Ive updated my location and yeah from now on it will also be nice to have a spotter with a scope down range to help with calling the shots ..my eyes are not what they once were. Most of the guys at the range were decent we chit chatted about rifle and shooting but all it take is one a hole to ruin it. One of my buddies former USMC already volunteered to come out with me says he will trade gun tips if I fix his PC when it takes a dump.

Since I am not entirely a beginner but no means dropping jagged holes on my targets I did ask my USMC buddy if I had over done it with the rifle I picked up.

The thought did cross my mind as well as some advise from this forum to pickup and 10/22 and go to town with it till I can shoot those crazy groups..but his reply was "Fear the man with one gun" if you are going to pick that thing up learn to shoot it and shoot it well and when you think you are good he will call up some of his old pals from the service to a friendly match..then I can go back and learn some more.I took him up on the offer so I have a long road ahead of me, but it will be fun.
