I'm happy with all my triggers.... not sure if this should be posted here or in the rifle segment... Anywho- If you are scared of a factory trigger and want another factory trigger... read on

Remington rifle settlement, including free trigger replacement, is official
  • Owners of some 7.5 million Remington firearms, including the Model 700 rifle, now have 18 months to file a claim.
  • A class action suit alleged the guns can fire without the trigger being pulled, though the company still maintains they are safe.
  • CNBC investigated allegations, denied by Remington, that the company covered up the alleged defect for decades.
Personally- I would suggest an aftermarket trigger if you don't want your existing trigger.... If we had more hunters and Shooters in the US of A, this suit would have gone to court and been tossed out- in my opinion

the whole thing was a fabricated media hit piece on Remington.

the only examples of triggers they found to fire without pulling the trigger were those that were neglected or that were fucked with.

with as popular as the 700 is.....if they were unsafe....youd be hearing about it en mass.......

I'm not being argumentative, but for example on The Duty Roster ~20ish years ago, it was a fairly hot topic back then. Different place, different group, but definitely respected.

ive not heard of it but no reason to doubt you.

but how many people then actually experienced a trigger failure....compared to how many people " knew a guy" or "heard a story" of a trigger failure?

the problem with forums is they can make issues out to be larger than they appear.

look at any car forum.......people only go on them to bitch about their problems with their car.....no one ever goes on and is like "yeah man my cars running good"......so no matter what car you look at, they are always going to seem unreliable when looking at the forums.

It’s amazing that after as many users including professionals have reported Remingtons discharging when the bolt is turned down or the safety pushed forward that anyone wouldn’t know about this problem.

One of guys I used to hunt with was taught how to decock his 700 for storage.

You pull the trigger while closing the bolt.... It lets the spring down without the impact of dry firing....

The bastard made this his habit while hunting.... Pulled the trigger and closed the bolt on a live round.... It turns out he and a second hunter were doing the same thing....

The first guy has an ND as were were putting on our Orange and loading before the days hunt.

The second guy, I noticed dents on all his primers when he was pulling ammo out of the box.

They had no clue this was dangerous and that the 700 has a solid firing pin.

I have handled & shot a bunch of 700's - maybe 20

No issues so far with Factory triggers....

Did you
Actually, to be completely forth coming, I discovered it during dry fire. All of a sudden I couldn’t pull the trigger. Had a “what the...” moment and realized it was firing when I closed the bolt. Certainly got my attention.
With any trigger I’ve messed with you can get them to the point where they fire when working bolt. Is this all that happend with the Remington trigger? Someone at the factory messed up? Or is it a mechanical problem?

This trigger hadn’t been messed with and was about 3+ pounds. It had just gotten a little crud in it and began malfunctioning. Made me really appreciate the simplicity of maintaining my M70 triggers. I’m really glad it didn’t happen during prone live fire being a 300WM. Didn’t need that bolt coming through my eye socket.
