I know, I know. old topic

So I'm putting together a remington 700 for a buddy. The big question is what trigger to put in there.

If anyone has any outstanding suggestions, or knows of a great trigger on sale. Please let me know.

My suggestion was a jewell.

I've had excellent results with Shilen triggers. They have a far better fit and finish than factory, and a lower cost option if that's a issue.

I think the jewell is a great option. OTM has them in stock and on sale with flat rate shipping. Ive been buying the right safety with no bolt stop lately, which is $200 to my door. Adding the stop adds a few bucks. Shipping is oddly fast as well, like 2-3 days from florida to cali.

Have tried the Huber, Timney and Jewell. I've kept the Jewell but am now interested in the Bix n'Andy. Have heard good things about them.

If mostly bench, mat or safe queen, Jewell. If it's for a R&G match/dirt/woods gun, 2 stage Timney. I've owned 4 Jewels an none fared all that well off a clean square range.

What were they doing? Pin riding down as the bolt closes? They definitely wont take dirt if you set them up
with near zero over-travel. I think its those setups that gave them a bad rap. I varmint hunt prone with mine. Hundred of rounds a day, for days at a time. Guns get covered in dust, and never had a single issue. I set mine up well under a pound with a bit of over-travel.

Would not allow the bolt/s to go into full battery, (bolt to rotate down) even though they had over travel. I shoot in all weather an don't have time for gear that won't keep up. Glad they work for others but I was warned about them for my style of shooting but never took heed unit they failed. Murphy had to show me the light, an it was a cheap lesson that day, I won't give him another chance. Jewells have their place, just not in my sticks any more. The Timneys I've installed work just as well as the Jewells, an take the weather. I've had no failures to date an 3 have been in twice the amount of time(one 4x the time) the Jewells were.

I would suggest looking at TriggerTech

Very happy with mine, too.
Prefer it to Timney 510.
Timney 510 is a good inexpensive option, too.

I currently have one Remington XMP trigger with an Ernie the Gunsmith spring in it, set at 2.5 pounds, it's pretty decent. For $10 this trigger is good enough to hold me over until I shell out for another TriggerTech.
I have one other XMP that did not respond to the spring, could not get anywhere near 2.5 pounds, and pull was all over the place.
This is strange because I modded several of them in the past with ETG springs and had success.

Not sure if helpful, but offering my experience into the vast pool of knowledge...
