Remington 700 Varmint Laminated Stock

I have the oportunity to trade my Bushmaster varmint 223 for Remington 700 Varmint with a laminated stock in 308. I have never owned a Remington 700. I did have a FNPBR but traded it for the Bushmaster. Is the trade going to be worth it.Kind of on the fence. I miss shooting 308 and plus I still have all the reloading equipment still. Rifle will mainly be used for hunting and target.

Oh man, this is a a tough one. The Bushmaster Varmint upper isn't cheap when bought new. If I remember right, the upper alone costs more than a whole new SPS Varmint rifle does. Tell us more about the stock. What's the make? Is it bedded? How does the .308 shoot.

I recently sold a Varmint type upper that I put together. I got $600 for it and turned right around and bought a used SPS Tactical in .223 for the very same money. The SPS came with a Badger bolt knob installed, Warne scope base and a Surefire muzzle brake installed. Heck, now that I'm spelling it all out, I think that the Bushy Varmint rifle is worth more than the bolt gun, unless there's something really special about it.

Consider that you can get a new SPS Varmint model for in the $500 range (if you look around) and a nice laminate stock will run you around $200 (Using the Bobby Hart as an example from Stocky's Stocks). For that matter, you for the same money, you could get a Bell and Carlson stock for the same money and not have to worry about anything swelling up or warping on you.

Of course, I have been known to take a loss on equipment when I've just grown tired of something and just want something different. Whether or not you are getting screwed is all in your mind.
