For anyone who has gone to the Remington 700 Armorers course, could you let me know what the deal was on their discount program? I heard it's a pretty good deal on one firearm.

I am scheduled to go in December and need to get an idea on how much cash I need to save up or what I want to try to get. If you don't want to post it on the forum, please PM me.

Also, what kind of work did you do on the rifle you brought for the course. I am always real hesitant to mess with my rifle when it's shooting well. I almost want to find a beater to take.

Thanks

Re: Remington Factory Armorer Course Question.........

I didnt realise Remington ran such courses, does anyone have any details on this. Do they do it on rifles, shotguns etc.

Re: Remington Factory Armorer Course Question.........

I went about 8 months ago.
I really don't know why they even want you to carry a rifle as they supply an action, bolt and other items you will actually work on.
I carried my rifle and a beater. After I saw what was going on in the course I chose to work on the beater. Did I learn anything I didn't already know? not really, I learned a few tricks but the best result of attending the course is the first name basis of having a contact you can call on the phone and the Armorers DVD, it has the 700, 870 and 7600 along with some computer generated 3D of the trigger assemblies.
As far as the purchase at employee discount, you will receive a certificate of attendance and a certificate for purchase about 2-3 weeks after attending where you send the certificate of purchase in after talking to one of the ladies in leo sales to make your buy. All in all it has taken about 2 months since going through the paper work to get my 700 SPS Stainless for $450 total.

Re: Remington Factory Armorer Course Question.........

Based on recent experience with bad 700 I assume they do not teach rebarreling? I had to send a rifle back two times to get it right. Both times a different barreled action came back, first time with a used bolt in it that was rusted on the handle.
I used a UPS ship point and Remington sent the rifle back to the ship point address and not mine. I got a call from the ship point asking me if I knew about a package there for me. NOPE ! !
They had it laying on the floor unsecured for three weeks and only way they found me was they looked up previous ship records to Remington and back traced me that way.
Just because it says Remington doesn't mean they will get it right on your address to get it back to you.

Re: Remington Factory Armorer Course Question.........

I believe these are LE only.

They do not teach re-barreling or custom gunsmithing. I am going so that I am certified to maintain our department owned rifles. If they need barrel work or anything that actually requires removing metal, then they go back to Remington or to a match gunsmith.

I know how to do a lot on the weapon system right now. I mainly want to see what the "Remington" way of doing it is.

Thanks for the replies.

When I took the course several years ago, it was for 3 days in Evansville. We spent most of the time rebuilding the shotguns for Evansville PD. They did not go into much detail on the rifles. In fact they told us, if we had trigger problems we needed to send the trigger assy. in to Remington, and they would trade them out and express mail the replacement to us. It was good to get the blueprints for some tools, the networking with the Remy armorers, and the tech manuals. If I remember right, the discount was 10% below wholesale for 1 firearm only.
