Remington M24 Scope mounting questions

Hey guys, first post here. I just purchased a GA Precision M24 off of gun broker (and a 0 MOA MARS rail from the same shop). The gun is still in transit and I just want to sanity check a few things in regards to scope mounting. First off, the MARS rail did not ship with screws which I think will be problematic. I'm hoping I can just have some screws made at a shop near me. Or maybe someone knows of a website that still has them? What size screws will I need? I've also seen a post where someone mentioned having to tap the action to accept the MARS rail screws and MARS rail. Is that accurate? I just refuse to believe they sent the army a rail that required modification on the action holes but anything is possible.

Next, I wanted to purchase a scope with similar(ish) size to the Leupold M3a. I ended up going with a Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 (a bit bigger than the original M3a scope but I wanted some newer tech to go with it). Assuming I can make the MARS rail work, what height rings will be the lowest I can go? I will probably just wait for the gun to get in before I pick rings at my LGS but if someone has a similar setup I'd love to see it.

Lastly, If I cant immediately get the MARS rail mounted up, will a standard long action Remington 700 Scope base fit onto the m24 action? I'm assuming so but I haven't been able to confirm that on the internet. Thank you guys!

You probably are looking for 8-40 screws. Those can be bought commercially for pennies. If you bought a regular R700 long action, those scope mount holes are not 8-40. You have to have them drilled bigger and then tapped for the bigger screw. That's what you've read on the internet. I'm going to assume GAP did that already, but no idea.
As for the ring height, you probably need medium or higher rings. I have an M24 with the M3 mounted, and it's on med rings and I still have to have a cheek piece to get a good cheek weld. You can do some approximate math. You know the diameter of the front of the scope. You know the ring heights based on what most manufacturers show on their charts. You know the diameter of your tube where the rings will mount. From there, you can figure how much clearance you might have from the rail to the bottom of the front of the scope.
Last question is related to the first. If the holes are drilled for 8-40 already, you are SOL. If they are not drilled and tapped, then you are in good shape.

Don’t forget the clearance issue that Dan result based on objective bell. The “step down” is pretty far forward of the ejection port.

Screw sourcing at a good (not big box) hardware store should be easy enough. I'm in the sticks, but they have zero problem bringing an unloaded firearm in to determine thread sizing/pitch. Ask ahead, of course...

Also, McMaster-Carr is incredible for finding hard to get fasteners in every size and coating imaginable, and dirt cheap at that.
