Remington R25 accuracy

My dad has a Remington R25 in 308 and he is complaining about the accuracy, getting about 2 moa. He is using match ammunition, Hornady I think. I know that AR platforms can be difficult to shoot accurately, but he consistently gets under 1 MOA with his AR15. The rifle is completely stock other than a Geissele trigger.

Does anyone here have this rifle and what accuracy have you seen?

I am going to get the rifle at thanksgiving and will see what groups I can get out of it. If it shoots poorly for me, I will likely rebarrel it.

I wouldn't even think of rebarreling based on one type of ammo

Put some different stuff thru it...

Before resorting to the cost of rebarrel.

When using different ammo, also consider using different grain bullets.

Make sure the scope/base/rings are all tight and in spec.
Ensure barrel is free floated.
Take action of the stock, clean, and retorque to spec.

Check the rifle over from buttplate to muzzle. Ensure that rings/mounts/optics are properly mounted/secured to the rifle. Check the barrel's crown and look for any burrs/damage/etc.

If all checks out...give it a whirl and see if you can do any better than the 2MOA reported by your Dad. Shooting a .308 gasser is NOT the same as shooting your average AR-15 given the additional recoil impulses and reciprocating mass from the heavier BCG, buffer, etc. Any flaws in your technique or weaknesses with your fundamentals and you'll experience accuracy woes. In my experience, the R25s are generally capable of MOA accuracy with quality ammo and with a shooter doing his/her part behind the rifle.
