I could use a bit of help with my trigger, if possible.

I adjusted my Sendero's trigger exactly as per these instructions (which match other ones I've found):

Remington 700 trigger adjustment

Unfortunately, it did not work. After adjusting it (which seemed to work well) it now releases/fires every time I close the bolt. The only way I can keep it from doing this is by engaging the safety, and then whenever I disengage the safety, the pins still drops. I've tried moving each of the 3 screws independently, together, you name it and nothing changes it. It seems like something inside the trigger is in the wrong position, as I can hear a small "rattle" now inside the trigger that was not there before. What could have fallen out of place?

If anyone has suggestions (other than replacing with a Timney - I'd like to see if this one will work first) I'd appreciate them.

Oh, and I've worked on triggers on several of my rifles and shotguns previously, having taken them apart, replaced springs, stoned and polished, etc,and adjusted them. So, I'm not really a newbie at it. If I can disassemble and reassemble my Ruger Mk II pistol, much less a Quadrajet, I should be able to do this.

Re: Remington Sendero trigger adjustment problem

Is this an x-mark or old style?

You sure the connector is in the correct place? A "rattle" makes me think the connector isn't being held in place with enough spring tension.

Were it me, I'd start from square one and completely disassemble the trigger.

Re: Remington Sendero trigger adjustment problem

It's an old style trigger.

Since I can't find a schematic... which part is the connector?

I can't find any exploded views of a Remington 700 trigger, so I didn't take it apart yet to look. None from Remington, of course, and amazingly there isn't much on the 'net. I figured as popular as the 700 is that there's be a YouTube video of it, but no such luck.

Re: Remington Sendero trigger adjustment problem

The connector is the silver piece riding on the top/front of the trigger. It isn't attached to anything, but is the link between the trigger itself and the sear. It is held in place by tension from the pull weight adjustment spring.

If the pull weight spring is missing, or not applying enough pressure on the connector, the connector will rattle.

The fact that your function test showed the sear always falling unless physically blocked by the safety says that there is no engagement between the connector and sear. Rattling in the trigger pack points to a connector which isn't moving with the trigger as it should.

Visually check to see that the trigger pull weight spring is present. If so, increase tension until connector no longer moves independently of the trigger. Adjust engagement of connector and sear for adequate contact and function test again.

Re: Remington Sendero trigger adjustment problem

So I went to work on this again today, and after adjusting the 3 screws and analyzing the trigger many times, I decided to remove the safety to get a better look at the trigger. And, this is what I found:

I replaced the safety, and of course the trigger still does not work given the broken piece.

Is there anyone out there who can fix Remington trigger?

Or am I better off at this point swapping it out?

Thanks.

Re: Remington Sendero trigger adjustment problem

Nope. No idea.
Had it repaired and had a trigger job done on it at the same time. Now it's a thing of beauty.

Dad just left with it this AM to take to WY on an antelope hunt.

Re: Remington Sendero trigger adjustment problem

I know you said you already had it fixed and up and running, I worked with a old school gunsmith and we always jb welded the connector to get the exact trigger pull every single time. This gentleman built several benchrest rifles.
