Remington vssf

i had one years ago, before i knew what i was doing. believe it or not, it was one of the most accurate rifles i've ever owned. i sold it thinking all remingtons were like that and i could get another any time i want. had 3 rem700 since then and none compare.

that said, i sure wouldn't pay more than $700 or so for one. cause it' still a factory remington. the stock sucks. the bolt sucks. the bottom metal sucks. barrel isn't threaded. trigger needs replacing.

Have owned 2, my son still has one of them (220 Swift).

Both were the earlier model (pre-j-lock, pre-x-mark) the old-style triggers can be suitably tuned/adjusted by someone that knows what they are doing, the HS Precision stock (with aluminum bedding block) works pretty well, and most important, both rifles shot very well.

I was very happy with mine (22-250). Shot a .240" three shot group at 200 yards once. Now it sports a 28" Bartlein in a Manners stock. Good luck finding one for $700 bucks, the HS stock is no Manners but a shit ton better than those factory plastic stocks. I still run my tuned Xmark pro trigger. I never cared for BDL/ADL bottom metal anyway.

I have one in 308 it is outstanding! It shoots the 175 and 178 gr bullets like dream. At 300 yards golfballs are pretty easy to hit. For a factory gun there are few that will out shoot it and a lot of customs that wish they could just break even with it. I have taken ground hogs with mine out to 750 yards 1 shot off of the seat of an atv. Down side ro my 308 it only shoots 168's pretty good not as well as the 175's or 178's and it like factory federal gold medal and black hills factory ammo not just reloads

Had a couple. Mine were all shooters and I would pay $700 for one. Last one I had was a 22-250 I got at a pawnshop for $750 and it had a Redfield 6-18 on it. Man, that little rifle shot! Forty grains of H380 and a 52g SMK and you were in business.

I have had a few 700 VSSF's & currently have a .223 & .308, as well as a .204 VSSF II (H-S stock has wider fore-end, palm swells & the flute channels are black), I like them for their accuracy, stainless steel construction and that old-time "slick as glass" feeling bolt, which I don't get with my 700-P, although it is a fine, accurate rifle in it's own right. I don't shoot paper much O/T sighting in & confirming zero at dog-towns as they (.223's & .204) are prairie dog guns & do their job well out to 700+ yards (which is the farthest I've shot them). I'm not sure why Remington didn't offer this rifle in .243. I plan to rebarrel my .308 to .243 or one of the "in vogue" 6 mm's this winter & may do another in .260. A $700 VSSF is nearly a thing of the past as most will bring $950-1500, depending on caliber rarity.

Great rifle i just sold one in 22-250 to fund my first custom build. It was a tack driver with pretty much any ammunition i put through it. I got around 1200 out of it with a Vortex Viper on top of it plus quite a bit more extras.
