Rifle Scopes Reminton 700 Nikon scope ideas

Re: Reminton 700 Nikon scope ideas

What are you using it for? A fixed 10x is limited if you plan to hunt. The Nikon Prostaff are pretty nice scope and much cheaper than the Monarch line.

Nikon doesnt make a scope for $300 thats better then the Weaver Tactical Grand Slam 3-10 from midway usa. Mil Mil and nice glass , not to mention they actually track pretty good too. Good enough to hunt and shoot mid range with all day

Re: Reminton 700 Nikon scope ideas

I have a couple of that exact Monarch and it's a decent scope, but not great. It seems very durable, and the glass is decent, but nothing to write home about. IMO the Burris FFII's I have blow the Monarch UCC out of the water when it comes to glass quality. I'd take a hard look at one of those instead. The Vortex Vipers are another good option.

I also have an older model Prostaff from a year ago and honestly, I can't tell much if any of a difference in the glass from it and the Monarch. I'm really not sure there is actually a difference. The glass looks nearly identical in every way. However, the rest of the scope the Monarch is better including but not limited to the turrets.

The Monarch also is not a good option for long range shooting. Mine seemed to fail to return to zero after lots of dialing. It would pass a box test, but if you dialed it up or down several times, it wouldn't be at zero when you returned it to zero. If you are going for a long range scope I'd look for a Burris Tactical on the cheap, or step up to the SWFA SS line of scopes for something good.

Re: Reminton 700 Nikon scope ideas

Nikon also tend to have limited erector travel. They are decent mid-range optics, are not really up to par with other manufactures. You really haven't stated what you are going to use this scope for, but since you posted it on here, I am assuming it for long range type rifle. Honestly the 10 or 12x SS, that has adjustments that match the reticle, and over 30 mils of adjustment for $300 smoke everything Nikon has to offer...
