Gunsmithing Remmy 700 bolt issues

Hi all, first problem I've had with my R700. It's a SPS-V 308 that has been trued by Short Action Customs. Stock X-Mark Trigger (which I actually like after Mark worked on it) and sitting in a McRee G5 folding stock.

1/2 the time when I close the bolt it works as it should (trigger cocked and firing pin goes forward when trigger pulled)

1/2 the time the firing pin goes forward when closing the bolt, so nothing is cocked and when you pull the trigger nothing happens.

I've never taken apart a bolt before, and am hoping this is a bolt-problem not a trigger-problem?

I'm bad at describing, maybe I should make a youtube video unless this sounds familiar?

Try flushing the trigger out with lighter fluid and compressed air, might help.

If after flushing it out and ensuring it is clean then more than likely the sear engagement on the trigger assembly needs to be increased. In other words, the trigger is set too light.

Who set the trigger? It does seem likely that it's a trigger problem. If your gunsmith set it, he should have cleaned before adjusting it.

Nothing to adjusting one. Depending on your abilities, you can probably do it yourself. As mentioned, flushing it out good may be of help, but if it was just worked on, this should have already been done. That doesn't mean something hasn't found it's way in there since, though.

Problems with material used for storage within the trigger, I use hoppes #9 to thoroughly clean trigger assembly inside and out, then some compressed air followed by slip 2000.

The sear engagement on the trigger neeeds to be free of oil, dirt, etc. It needs to be dry.

No, No, No and No.....if you are going to clean out the trigger use Zippo lighter fluid. The Slip 2000 will attract dirt and grit and bind the trigger up.

The tool is only as good as the user, no one said dump as much in as she can hold.
Excuse me. oil it and blow it out again.
Running a bone dry trigger is like anything mechanical, movement needs some lube even if it's miniscule.

Why not just call Mark? His customer service was best I've experienced in any industry...I'm sure he would rectify the situation no questions asked.

I've had this happen a few times with the mark x triggers that are adjusted just a tad too light. What always fixes the problem is to slightly increase the trigger return spring pressure. 1/8-1/4 turn will usually do it. The pressure of the trigger spring pushes the trigger forward so that it resets the sear. Of course make sure the trigger is nice and clean by hosing it down with lighter fluid and lightly blown out. The lighter fluid when dried does leave some lubricity.

I would say trigger to. Defenatly sear engagement all the way. Never woulda thought of using lighter fluid to clean anything on a gun. Thanks.

This i common wth a factory trigger that is set too light. They get inconsistant. Just order up a Jewel trigger and be done with it. Lighter fluid is the correct cleaner/lube for Remington triggers.

i have 5r remington when i had x mak trigger i noticed this.changed trigger to jewell didnt fix issue.i think what your doing here, are you playing around with bolt emply chamber? if so heres what i noticed on mine. when you uinlock bolt and drop it to cock position without pulling bolt atleast 1/8" the firing pin will folow ( like when locking bolt and pulling trigger at the same time)
try unlock bolt pull it completely like your chambering a round youll see it will work how it should be..

Easy fix without sending it back. Just google how to adjust the trigger group. You need to have more sear engagement. Nothing done wrong by SAC, things wear in. Simpe enough.

What you just described is an example of poor handoff between the sear and cocking piece. Most people will just live with it on factory actions.

Update: I called Mark, he got back to me and offered to fix it but not before I had purchased/installed a Timney trigger.

Two lessons:
1) Listen to Mark. He told me from the get-go that I shouldn't use the factory trigger and should go with a Timney. I didn't listen to him and thus this.
2) Mark has good customer service, if not immediate. Much appreciated in these crazy times.

Bottom line: She's ready for the SH cup in a few weeks. 1/2 minute gun with 175 FGMM 308's. Took her out to 900 yards and we were ringing steel!
