I would like to take the front spacer out of my AI mags. I notice that there are two spot welds on the front of the mag which I assume is how the spacer is attached. Can I drill that out to remove the spacer??If so do the holes need to be filled in for any reason?? Thanks guys!!

I drilled mine out and did not fill them.
There is a small possibility that a round could migrate forward and get its meplat stuck in the hole but the holes are not aligned with rounds in the mag so it's very unlikely IMHO.

Be advised you will most likely not get through the spot welds with a steel drill bit as the high carbon steel the mags are made out of gets very hard at the spot welds.
I used carbide spade drills and a milling machine to get through mine.

Yes, I am about .020 to long on my load with the 139 Lapua's. SporterII did you "Bow" the front of the mag with the spacer still in the mag?? If so how did you do it?? Does the mag still fit the opening without binding?? Thanks Guys!!

Bow?
The plate has been removed with zero distortion to the body. Zero removal of body material. Welds un disturbed.
Plate was EDM cut at the weld points from the inside. ONLY plate material removed, plates drop free. Sorry the photo is not clear.

I have to run mine like this. I wish they would just make them longer... The whole custom rifle and guru consumers want longer mags every time for room to beathe... socks they won't just make them like that.
