They are pretty much all removable. A little heat and the loctite lets go. There are also the type like the FTE with a pinch collar, which would probably work as well as anything for your purpose.

That about sums it up. I personally like the pinch collar type, but thats just me.

That about sums it up. I personally like the pinch collar type, but thats just me.

I have always wondered about the collar type. Would over torquing them effect accuracy pinching the barrel down a few thous ?

I am partial to the Badger Ordnance FTE, I just purchased one for my next .300 win mag build.

I would invite you to use a set of precision fit reamer bushings as go no go gauges or a lead slug to test this. I have and found it takes very little pressure to constrict a muzzle.
Another little known factoid is, did you know that it only takes 3 inch pounds of pressure on and unsupported tang screw to measurable distort a Remington 700 action.

I dont doubt the tang being distorted very easily and the same with the barrel but if it affected accuracy very much then the FTE would not be used very much. I have FTE and RAD brake on two of my rifles and both shoot .2s-.3s. How much have you measured that it does to the bore?

Never said it hurt accuracy but it is a measurable distortion to the tune of .0002"-.0006". I think a full choke might tighten your patterns.

hay guys are there any smaller OD brakes that do not require barrel threading that use the pinch type? i dont mind a dimple for a set screw i can do that on the mill at work

I use the Benchmark brakes for customers that want to switch out to run cans often. They are a threaded brake with a clamp and set screw. They are also one of the most effective brakes I have found. I would rate them right up there in the top 3 or 4 of all brakes I have tried.
X2 on the Witt...got one for my 300wm for load development and take it off to go hunting. No changes in accuracy...POI changes slightly, jus have to adjust for that when u take it off before going hunting.
