Gunsmithing Removing bedding material

I inherited two H-S Stocks. Both aluminum blocks have been skim bedded with Marine Tex. What is the preferred method for removing this stuff? I don't have access to a mill, but do have a media blaster, dremel, sandpaper, and the usual chemicals (denatured alcohol, acetone, and MEK).

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I hate have two stocks I can't use.

I don't know what's preferred, but if it were me, I'd just dremel it out then re-bed them onto the actions you want to use.

I've used a 1/4" wide wood chisel with great success in this exact application. Get the chisel between the bedding material and the aluminum and it pops right out in little chunks.

I popped the bedding out of the last skim bedded HS I had with a flat blade screw driver. I imagine how well it adhered, will have a direct correlation, to how many cuss words you have to say.

Would freezing said stock for a couple days make it any easier? Or just increase the risk of the stock having issues?

You can grind (wear a mask), or mill it out

I bought a gem of a rotary tool and 4.7 million piece accessory kit at harbor freight for $9 . Dove in hugged out the old bedding to make room for the new. Worked perfectly on my DIY bedding replacement.

So I just tried the heat gun method on two manners stocks I recently picked up used. Just heat the compound and start scraping, it comes off surprisingly easy. If you're in a rush and/or plan on re-bedding you can use a pick and the compound will come off in large pieces.

Old thread I know but I used JB Weld and my grouping wasn’t great today. I know where I have a high spot and would like to remove material. I am going to try a Dremel.
