What is the best way to remove the delta ring to install a quadrail or handrail? I have seen the Dremel technique and removing the barrel nut and barrel to remove it. I am leaning towards the Dremel route because I don't have any of the tools to remove the barrel nut and barrel.
Looking for other suggestions or ideas.
    Thank you in advance!

a barrel requires some kind of retention nut. and most FF handguards clamp to the barrel nut. you have to have the proper tools for the job. if the existing barrel nut is crazy tight, and a torch wont work, then sure, cut the bitch off. but you'll have to put a new one on.

you will need one of these

and a torque wrench. What freefloat tube are you using? If you have not already chosen one, I would highly recomend the tube by APCustoms. I have used 3 of them now and love the carbon fiber thing...major weight savings. It also utilizes your GI barrel nut as the main mounting point. To get the delta ring off the barrel nut, you will need split ring pliers similar to this...

The rifle is a Smith and wesson M&P10. I don't believe the ar-15 tools will fit on it. The handguard is a apex. I watched a video where a guy had to grind his ar-15 multi tool just to get it to fit the larger barrel nut on the 308. I would prefer not to have to remove the original barrel nut and just simply expose it so I can mount my tube.

Which rail is it? If the rail can mount on a standard barrel nut, dremel will be fine. If not, you'll have to remove the current nut and install the new one. It would help if you told us which rail was being installed.

It is a Apex Handguard model number 2550. It can be mounted to factory nut. It is the handguard that smith has in its accessory Pamphlet that comes with the gun.
