Removing NV block on AICS

Gents,

I know quite a few people don't like the NV block that is on the newer AICS chassis so I was wondering if any of you remove it? I have an Atlas bipod and spigot and was wondering if the spigot would work just as well if it was inserted into the frame? I have instructions on how to remove it so if any of you would like to know just ask and I'll post them.

About 1/3 the way through there is a post with this info:

Remove AICS front spigot:

This is easily done.
1. Drive out the spring steel pin.
2. Slide the bipod adaptor housing slightly forward.
- This releases the sling adaptor cross piece from it's notched
housing.
3. Tap the sling stud bar through the stock fully releasing the
bipod spigot adaptor.
4. On the newer AI chassis there is a rubber bumper that sits
below the sling adaptor to prevent rattling. You may shoot
a little WD-40 on it to facilitate easy removal.
And yes, the stock sides must be removed first.

No, you cannot just remove the block and stick the bipod or spigot into the frame. You can replace it with the shorter, old spigot block.

Mile High did have some of the shorter blocks in stock.

Knock the pin out, left to right.

Take the block screws out.

Pull the block forward until you get a 1/8th gap between the block and chassis.

Take a rubber malet and tap out the sling swivel.

After sling swivel is removed pull the block off.

Done.

Unfortunately, the blocks come from England and no one (including AI) appears to have any available in the US.

Been trying to give my AICS a nose job, with no success so far.

additional intel on boones instructions...
Don't forget to pull the block foward before you mallet out the side to side sling mounts. spray a little rem oil in sling mount. I took a large flathead with tape on the tip and pulled it foward to not scratch the chassis.

Another good tip before installing the short block is to swap over the little rubber disk that is glued onto the block. It keeps the sling mount from rattling about.
I also got my short block from mile high, can't say enough good things about them up there!

Edit to note CEGA already nailed that point!

Hey guys,

Just a quick message to let everyone know that part # AI 2510 is not the short block. I just received it from SRT. Couldn't get an answer from the distributors so I bought it. Thought I'd let everyone know so they don't make the same mistake.

Let me know if anyone knows where to pick up a short block.

If you plan on mounting the bipod to a bottom rail under the AICS, why not just remove the front spigot? Anything I'm missing. I would think it would be a net weight loss on the rifle.
