Reports on Lothar Walther T1x Prefit Barrels?

Not that I have a T1X but I am interested in how these barrels do. From what I have seen the T1X is a great shooter out of the box (for the price point), I know LW can make some stellar barrels so this should be a great combination!

excuse for my ignorance is tikka t1x barrel is chambered with JGS MATCH? I heard that the Zermatt prefit is JGS MATCH CHAMBER? correct me if I wrong.

Below is the response I received from LW regarding the Tikka T1X prefit barrel. Note I inquired about getting a barrel without the threading and it would cost more since it is considered a custom.

Good afternoon. We use a JGS Match reamer to chamber our barrels. It should work well with either match type. We can produce a barrel without the thread, but it will cost $100 extra. This upcharge is because this will be a custom barrel and we will have to set our machines up to produce it alone.

Please let me know what other questions you have.

With regards,

John McBrayer

Seriously waiting to hear some actual reports of how these shoot..
Have only seen a couple pics of targets shot from them and it hasn’t been conclusive either way..

Ok, I got trigger time behind mine yesterday. I ran several rounds thru it to get a feel for it. I shoot 75yards and also shoot 10 round groups. I do get a little lead shaving with the bullets, and the occasional hang up on the feed ramp. It was pretty windy so I was primarily breaking in the barrel. If I can get the wind to settle down, I will shoot groups and take pictures.

Given the current options, I’m leaning toward just sticking with the factory barrel.. it’s easily sub-moa with the right ammo.
IBI has made some really nice shooting barrels with the 52d chamber, but people have issues with feeding. They’re also only 22”..
Lothar, for some reason chose a JGS match chamber instead of a true match chamber, and along with the lack of feedback from
owners, leaves me wondering how they shoot.. (someone please prove me wrong with some pics)
Preferred Barrels is supposedly working on one, but no word of when. I heard from them that their still working out the feeding issues, so when they do come out I’m optimistic that everything will be working..
Beyond that I’ve heard of a couple custom turned barrels, but again, I question the cost reward ratio.

I was wondering if you’ve been able to shoot your T1X with LW barrel anymore? Thinking about getting one and curious of accuracy and feeding issues.

I believe the fellow above sold his..
Saw an Instagram post from IBI saying they were redoing website to show new higher prices, but that he has a number of barrels on the shelf ready to ship at the current prices.. (if I wanted a barrel right now, I’d call him)
As for the Lothar/Walther barrels, still no real data aside from one or two pics.. a guy on YouTube has one and is hinting that it’s more consistent than the factory barrel, but still no hard data. I’d like to see a couple 6x5’s.

We shot guns yesterday. Like any .22s, lot numbers dictate accuracy. I sold the Tikka to my buddy since the RimX came available. Truthfully, using the cheap ammo that we had, I'd say the LW shot pretty well, matching my PROOF stainless barrel on my RimX. I had ran out of my SK plus but not before I shot a 10 shot group at 75 yds, and it shot damn good, enough that I bought another brick to test myself.

Back to the LW, I observed some pretty good groups with the better ammo, but the factory Tikka barrels ran CCI SV pretty well and for the price vs accuracy, the factory Tikka barrels are pretty good.

I bought one of these barrels for my 457 and it shoots great. Here is a 10 shot group at 75 yards with Eley match

I bought Travis224's gun. I havent shot groups yet but I took it out yesterday.
Things I dont like about my factory barrel were the profile, 223 length muzzle threads, blued, and shot aweful with a suppressor. Without a suppressor it shot great but I tried 3 suppressors and all of them opened up groups with all 12 different ammo types i tested.
I'll be taking the LW barrel out sometime this week and shooting for groups. It didnt have any feeding problems with the barrel either.

SRT4 please let us know how it shoots. I’m also curious on feeding issues. Mine is in a XLR chassis and shoots good and feeds good. No issues with feeding at all. Like you said I don’t like the profile of the barrel especially since I put it in a chassis. Your future input will be appreciated.

Clark Custom has used WL barrels for quite some time and they have a very solid reputation for accuracy. I used WL on a build of 25 ARs and had no complaints as to accuracy.. but, the guns were ARs and accuracy was not the primary concern for the users....

No groups to report, all we shot was steel. About 250 rounds today without a single feed problem. 4" plate at 160yds got boring from a tank trap or prone. Started shooting weak hand from the tank trap and that turned out to be a real bitch.
One day there wont be gusting winds all day and I might actually be able to shoot for groups.

I mean, they shouldn’t suck right? I’m a little confused why they chose a chamber designed more for semi-auto than for a precision bolt gun, but even so it’s still tighter than the factory tikka. Should shoot?
Not sure why we can’t get a 6x5 or two.
IBI sounding better and better, they’re offering two different contours now, including a 20” straight barrel.

Too bad IBI don't offer the Win 52D chamber any more. Here's performance on 5 different ammo. These were all shot the same day back to back to back without cleaning. All shot at 55 yards, ten 5-shot groups.

I know this thread is 1 year old but with all the new 22 match’s popping up I figured I’d update. Yesterday I shot a northern series match and in my squad we had a rimx with a lothar, tikka with a lothar, a tikka with an ibi and a ruger with an ibi. All 4 guns seem to produce really great results. The winner in my squad was with a tikka and ibi combo. He got the barrel last week and only had 100 rounds before the match so he didn’t really know the rifle all that well. Now a lot of this goes to the shooter obviously but zeroing in I was impressed with all the groups shot with all the rifles minus the ruger/ibi as the shooter wasn’t great.

I’ve spent a few thousand rounds with a rimx/lothar combo beside my vudoo and minus some of the issues with the rimx ejecting, the rifle has shot some seriously incredible groups.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned I was going to replace the stock barrel on my T1X with a Lothar Walther prefit. I don't remember where I mentioned it tho...

Anyway, it took much longer than I expected. I had some good advice on how to remove the stock barrel that wasn't successful, at least not by itself.

Ultimately, I made a strong support for the action out of aluminum billet so as not to mar the action. This plus a 10" piece of cold rolled steel to tap out the barrel worked like a champ in conjunction with ATF/Acetone and gentle taps with a 4 pound sledge (gentle taps).

Anyone notice their brass looking like it's about to blow due to the feed ramp cut on the LW barrel? I haven't had a case rupture yet.... Eley ammo, 1066fps
