REPR Questions

I was at my local dealer today and he has a new 16" REPR in stock that he wants to trade for my motorcycle. The bike is worth 3.5k so it's about an even trade. I really don't know much about this rifle. I've read a couple reviews but you know how they can be. It's usually someone who will try to justify their decision even if they hate the gun. My first impression is that I like it but I've bought way too many guns in the past that I ended up disappointed with. So my questions are these:

1 - Will an AR15 Magpul PRS stock fit on this rifle without modification? I know the 20" version has a PRS but is it a bolt-n-go swap?

2 - Is the fire control group the same as an AR15? I ask because all of my ARs have Wilson Triggers and I love how they shoot.

3- I reload for my 308 bolt gun but I have no experience reloading for a gas gun. Are there any differences or precautions I need to know about?

4- Provided the right load combination and conditions what type of accuracy is this gun capable of?

5- Has anyone shot one supressed? If so what kind of can did you use and were you pleased with the gun's performance suppressed.

The AR15 PRS will fit on a 308 however you will not be able to completely extend the charging handle if you raise the cheek piece. The difference of the 2 is that the AR10/SR25 has a shorter cheek riser to allow the longer charging handle of the AR308.

You clearly know nothing about the REPR. As it has a side charging handle, you use an ar15 model prs, not an ar10.

OP. Nice machineing, cool features, ar triggers, reliable...but it you expect bolt gun accuracy, think again. Nothing special aboit reloading. Nothing lighter than 175s.

Cool Scout thanks. I'm expecting 1 moa. I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. If I need anything better I'll get out the bolt.

1. PRS will work fine. Since you have handled the gun I am sure you noticed there is no rear charging handle. It is a side charging handle. So, adjust the prs as much as you need.

2. REPR uses a small pin.

3. Stay away from the superperformance powder. Neck tension of at least .003. Full length size every time.

4. Around 1 moa. The one I had experience with would do a little better, but it seems most are around moa.

5. Works great with a can. Used a AAC 762-SDN-6.

I did not own it, but put more than a 1000 rounds down one. The rifle functioned great. Accuracy was acceptable and the fit and finish was good. The piston system needs regular care as the repr tends to have a copper slug build up into the piston are making it almost impossible to turn. It takes a lot of rounds though and everyone should be maintaining a gas gun anyway.

My honest opinion is if you are looking for flat out accuracy keep looking. If you are looking for a rifle that will hold moa and has some cool features it's a good gun. However, I do not believe the 16" model is worth anywhere near the $3,500 price tag. I don't think they use the Geissele trigger in those and they have the cheaper emod stock instead of the ubr.

If the repr has the sopmod you will have to change your buffer tube to rifle length and change the buffer as well to use the PRS

I own a REPR 20. It is less than moa. It does have nicer features and a superior fit and finish than any other LR 308 I have seen. (not that I have seen every one). There are Many accounts of REPRs being 1/2 moa but so far mine hasn't tightened up that much, but I am new to the precision semi auto community so I may just be catching up. My best group so far out of it has been 2 3/8" at 400 yards but that is not consistent. If you plan on shooting g suppressed the adjustable gass block and side charger will be nice. If you want balls out reliability with moa (or possibly better) accuracy in a badass platform with great features (and 3500 bucks) the REPR will do it.

You will have an EXTREMELY difficult time finding a 16" REPR that will consistently shoot 1 moa. Although there is no shortage of REPR owners who claim otherwise. In fact the same can be said about the 20" as well. Battle rifle yes. Precision semi...not even close.

My 18" REPR at 100 yards. I'm still getting there with the gun but they will shoot. FGMM 168g. My gun seems to like this load. 5 rounds off a bipod and a rear bag. I'm still learning the gun and don't expect this every time but I'm somewhat encouraged. The gun is more or less stock, I did change to a PRS stock, popped out the buffer tube and swapped everything with my SR-15 only changed the buffer spring to a heavier one. I have mostly been fighting to get this gun into sub-MOA territory. The last change was to a muzzle brake from hell. Looks like the end of a 105. Cut felt recoil down to near 5.56 levels but don't shoot it on a crowded range, you will not make many friends. The 16" REPR comes with a different stock though. Mine is now setup like a 20" Swaroski 3.5-18 scope set at 16 power with a SPUHR mount. The gun did not like the original LaRue QD mount I had on it. This was the first tryout with all the new goodies. I got lost in my turrets for a bit as the mount has a 20 MOA can't and before it was flat. 20 MOA is a lotta clicks.

I have the 18" REPR, and pretty much only shoot it suppressed. I have a Surefire 7.62 can, and I run the Surefire Break/Adapter. I have a lot of rounds through mine, in the 3+ thousand range, and have had 100% reliability. I purchased this rifle to shoot it suppressed, had an SR-25 and shot it suppressed, and while it did not fail to run, it was filthy after 100 rounds. The REPR was dirty, but not like the KAC even after 400 rounds. As far as handloading for a REPR. They are not that picky. I just use a small based Redding full length sizer, keep the cases trimmed, and chamfered, and I use IMR4895, cause I have a donkey load of it, seat a 175gr SMK, and go shoot the damn thing. Repeat as needed! I do use LC brass as it is a little thicker, and can take semiauto abuse a little better. Out of my 18" barrel, I'm averaging 2535 FPS. I run KAC mags, and the 7.62 P-mag's. All work great with my REPR. There are cheaper rifles, and more accurate ones, but it fits the bill nicely for me. I have a solid 100% reliable 1MOA rifle. I had my (at the time) 10 year old daughter hitting a 10" steel plate at 325 yards about 8 out of 10 times with it suppressed, and 3 guys couldn't hit it with their hunting rifles. Kinda funny when my daughter told them it wasn't that hard! In the end, buy what you want, and have fun, and shoot, shoot, and shoot. J
