I'm setting up a new 12.5" 6.5 Grendel AR, and I'm trying to determine best mount height and/or best mount, with an eye towards adding a 12 o'clock red dot down the line. I'd appreciate any input from the hive mind.

Mount height will be personal preference. For a 12oclock red dot I’d probably go with a 1.5ish centerline. They all work for different preferences / body types / use cases. Both are high quality mounts. Reptilias red dot mounting is a bit more streamlined in my opinion. Requires less accessories to be purchased on top of the mount.

I have both. They're both great.

Get the 1.54/39mm.

I have a 1.7 comm as well with a 1-8 atacr on it. I've grown accustomed to it but would probably still prefer 1.54 especially with the top mounted optic.

The higher the mount the more trouble I have when prone as well.

I've used other peoples1.9" mounts and the unity 2.26. It's personally not for me but I also don't have nodz.

I have both mounts, the 1.7 comm is nice for something I’m gonna shoot both standing and prone but I wouldn’t want a red dot on top. I mounted a red dot on top of the 1.54 AUS and it was nice. I’d lean more towards the 1.54 these days. I think the 1.9 and higher mounts only work well for something like three gun where I’m gonna mainly use my lpvo at 1x and be standing/running. YMMV

I like badger. I use...
-1.93 if it's stand alone
-1.7 if top mounting a rds but the lpvo is still my primary 1x aiming solution. Rds pretty much for nvg use or backup
-1.5x if top mounted dot is primary 1x aiming solution and lpvo is mostly used as a magnified optic

I've been using higher mounts for forever so I'm used to them and the "chin" weld it comes with. I recently just put a small riser on my stock with my atacr at 1.7-its not any faster or accurate for me but I can "relax" more when prone'd out. No change for 1x shooting.

Can only speak on the COMM. Its great, and can do the 12 o-clock no problem. I like mounting at 12 above an optic, because if im running an LPVO only reason for a dot is Night vision (for me). The dot being that high is great for heads up shooting under nods.
