Alright so here is the deal. I have been assigned a ten page research paper for my English Comp class. The only stipulation is that it has to be a controversial subject that I am either attacking or defending with the research.

So, my question for you guys is... Any ideas on what to write it on?

Re: Research Topics?

hunting with suppressors, i hear the health care thing is poping back into the news, if you look at your local news paper you mit find somthing that is a local issue to write on that people would go ether way on,...

Re: Research Topics?

I have wrote more than one paper for college English and always wrote mine over the second amendment or over gun control laws, there is plenty information with plenty of sources that you can use for college level papers. I have wrote a paper over each subject, both being ten pages each, seems like college professors like that number. Check out the library at the your school there should be a good amount of books that you can use for either paper also.

Re: Research Topics?

Are you interested in the law? If so, send me a PM and tell me what area of the law you are interested in (criminal, property rights, securities law, tax, contracts, torts, health, constitutional rights, whatever) and I'll probably be able to provide you with a few topic ideas or suggestions as to which cases to read to inform your analysis.

Re: Research Topics?

Skip the gun topic all together, it's a sure-fire way to get a bad grade no matter what stance you take. I've only ever had one professor who wasn't sour on guns and most professors will lower your grade if they don't agree with the topic. It's not a conscious thing they're doing rather it's the same reason you change the channel when a host of a news program has a stance on an issue you don't agree with.

I would agree with HB on this one. Try to pick a topic your prof is cool towards and tailor your arguement to suit his or her viewpoint.

1. POTUS and the Justice Dept. claiming legal authority to assassinate US citizens without due process.

2. NDAA

3. US Dollar losing it's grip as the world's exchange currency.

4. The war in Afghanistan: What are we still doing there.

Re: Research Topics?

I did one on concealed carry and got a 98. And my teacher left a comment saying that she learned something. On an unrelated note, I am very grateful that my teachers never assigned a paper nearly that long.

ObamaCare.

I do not mean that politically or anything else- it IS controversial and you can either attack it or defend it.

Re: Research Topics?

Surprisingly this professor is not a liberal at all. In fact I actually repaired a rifle for them a few weeks ago.

As soon as she gave the assignment she looked at me and assumed I would be doing it on the Second Ammendment.

Thank you everybody for the ideas up to this point. I have decided to write it on the laws of war and rules of engagement. With all the different opinions floating around out there it should hopefully turn out to be somewhat interesting.

If any of you have comments, sources, or ideas please feel free to post them! Coming up with ten pages of information is no fun.

I have just one rule of engagement. .Kill the other guy before he kills me.

Re: Research Topics?

ethics : good or bad
send ridge ave a 50 spot for a copy of his paper on concealed carry
then go out and bang some hot college girl and her hotter friend.
if you get caught cheating on the paper tell whoever is handing out discepline that u were doing research for your senior thesis. if you dont get caught, you still got to bang some hot chicks and ridge ave made $50.
everyone wins

Re: Research Topics?

If you're teacher is pretty cool/you have a good rapport with them write about how having defined page lengths in essays detracts from the argument as it dilutes it down because the person is more worried about adding fluff than adding content. Make it a 5-6 page paper.
