Results Rayners July 2013 Long Range Steel Plate Match

Another month out of the way and finally the 400 barrier has been broken. Congratulations to Gary Conner for finally shooting that elusive 400 score. With a maximum of 645 points possible you'd think a 400 would be easy but it's been a long hard battle and from what I was told even though it was supposed to be a rainy day the conditions were near perfect with no wind which is rare at Rayners.

The scores reflected the differences from Saturday to Sunday, wind kept picking up and at some stages holding 2 mil of wind or more wasn't uncommon. Shooting these distances Mother Nature plays a huge part and it's a crap shoot what it's going to be doing when it's your turn to shoot. That's part of the game and keeps it interesting but frustrating. Only three 300+ scores were shot on Sunday, most shooters were just happy to hit the larger targets at each station.

Another good turnout with 78 entries battling the distant steel. Tom added another bench at each station which seemed to help. A big Thanks to Tom and Carolyn for hosting these shoots for us and as usual the food was great and was appreciated by all. Thanks to everyone else that helped make the match run so smoothly.

Awesome time again guys! In April I came in at 49th(?) out of 51 and I was able to move up to 28th this match. Hopefully I will be able to keep improving with the months to come.

Rayners put on another fantastic event, well ran, and as always its like your hanging out with family.

I had a great time getting the rifle out again. Didn't really matter to me that I couldn't hit everything I wanted to. Congrats to the holy grail of 400 being shot on Saturday!

yes saturday was a nice day, couple little sprinkles but over all pretty good.
a good job goes out to gary and he left about 20 points out there,i suspect that he will get them next month.
also we had a first timer shooting saturday, great job wendy you showed a lot of us how to get it done! now stop it and stick to

[WVa Shooter]

I read a lot about the matches and saw the videos on you tube. The wind is always in play at this place. The people there are as nice to spend a day with as anywhere I go. Saturday was calm as I never held more than a one moa until the final three shots. Held 1.5 right on the 8 inch plate at 1000 for my final two Hits. We where so rushed to get out that I didn't know I had shot 400 till a fellow shooter grabbed me later that night at the fair. It's an 8.5 hour drive for me to get there from Va but well worth the trip.

Good shooting for sure , wind or no wind ! . It was a little ruff on Sunday ! I did not help myself any by having my 200yd zero , 4moa to high , its hell getting old and having your eyesight and brain start to fade .
