Hey guys hoping you could help. Was wondering first if there is eough metal left to rethread a sako TRG .308 barrel for a tikka t3 action. And if so what do you think it would cost to do it. Thebarrel is already chambered so it would just need to be threaded and headspaces. As I understand it on is metric the other imperial.
Thanks

Why would one be metric and the other one be imperial (english). Sako and Tikka are part of the same company--both are originally Finnish (a metric country). Rumor has it that the Tikka rifles--at least the tactical line--uses the same barrel as the Sako TRG rifle which is one of the reasons why the Tikka rifles where so accurate. Don't really know if the rumor is true but I do know that the Tikkas I have shot are all lasers. Which one did you say has the imperial threaded barrel?

All the T3's are 1"-16tpi. There would not be enough meat left to turn them off and start fresh. You would have to cut the tennon off all together and start fresh. Basically set it back, slightly over an inch if I remember correctly. The TRG and Tikka barrels are fairly thin on the chamber in, due to the fact that the Tikka action is only 1.2" before the radius at the front of the action, same on the TRG but slightly bigger. So you would have to make sure there was enough meat left on the chamber end after setting it back. Cost should be what ever someone would charge for setting a barrel back.

That just seems odd to me that Tikka would use imperial dimensions for it's parts when the original country they came from is Finland (a metric country). Add to the fact that the front of barrels on threaded versions are metric threaded m18x1 in my case for the tactical models. I was going to suggest asking Mac Tilton from MT Guns for his opinion since he chambers and rebarrels Tikka rifles into match rifles. I guess I learn something new everyday.
