Hi Guys,

At present I have a Leupy 4.5-14 M4LR with the TMR reticle on my go-to gun.

I am building a custom rig at the moment, and I was thinking of mounting a Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50FFP on it when it's done. the hope is that it will be my new go-to gun.

I am dithering about the reticle choice though. I do not know whether to go with the EBR1 or the EBR3. These are both the mil scale, while I believe the EBR2 has 1/4MOA scale. I want to go with mil/mil ret/turrets, to try to keep the math simple for this 'bear of very little brain'.

What would you guys recommend?
Frank, I would really appreciate your input into this, if you have the time.

Not having looked through either of these scopes I'm somewhat in the dark.

Oh, and those of you who are about to respond with "Dude, buy a USO/Nightforce/S&B/insert your own prejudice here", Please, unless it's really constructive, just don't.

Thanks,

Neil

Re: Reticle choice

vortextactical.com is showing that the EBR-1 is MOA, EBR-2 on 3 are Mil scale.

This is coming from a guy that has never looked through a Razor. The EBR-2 has the windage dots if you are using holdovers. That will open up more options and make it faster. If you currently or are planning on using a lot of holdovers this would be the way to go. The EBR-3 is more of a plain Tactical Mil reticle like your TMR. If you are happy with your TMR and like a "Non-busy" reticle that would be the way to go. These are my opinions with never looking through a Razor.

Hope this helped,

Rhett

Re: Reticle choice

Thanks Rhett,

I think I may have got things a little confused with the ret designations, as I was working from memory of what I saw on the SWFA website. To my logical mind they will have displayed the ret options in numeric order. They would do that, wouldn't they?

Thanks for the heads up.

Anybody out there in internetland actually USING a Vortex razor can advise??

Thanks again,

Neil

Re: Reticle choice

Well, I just bought one and it should be here tomorrow. I picked the EBR-2 after some equivocation between it and the EBR-3. I'll let you know what I think when I get it, Monday at the latest.

Re: Reticle choice

I just got mine yesterday too. Razor and the GAP

It must have been a Razor day. I have the MOA/MOA EBR-1 reticle. I would say that there are more items for the mil/mil set-up, i.e. Vortex Recon scopes are set-up for a mil reticle and their extra lens for the spotter are a mil set-up, but, I did ask Sam@vortex and he said they are looking into the idea of having a MOA EBR- reticle for the recon scopes and an tactical reticle for the spotter.

I built a matrix for the MOA reticle on Excel for common sizes from 9-72 inches mainly 4 inches spread if you need it.

The equation for the MOA is as easy as the mil set up just a different number

inches x 95.5/MOA vice a mil set-up is inches x 27.8/MIL - not that different.

As far as the scope - I am coming from a Leupold and IOR background so this is my first jump into high-level glass but I can tell you that the optics are very clear and not even in the league with Leupold. I did have an IOR SH Edition Scope and it was comparable to that. Super crisp and the turrets are massive and easy to turn. Everything about the scope screams class. I have to give it to Vortex they know how to design a scope for shooters.

Re: Reticle choice

I picked EBR-2, and find it a great reticle - except that to my eyes the holdoff points are visible (and thus usable) only against bright enough background - e.g. foliage doesn't need to apply.

For my next Razor HD I'm contemplating EBR-3 - especially for its 0.1 mrad subtentions that should make ranging more precise - but would like to ask those experienced with this reticle: how clear are those 0.1 mrad subtentions? Are they hard to see, or not?
