I saw that Paul Howe is running this optic. Does anyone here have experience with this scope?

It baffles me as to why they can't get the FireDot in the Mark6 1-6x. I've used a VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 scope, and it's a great optic. The illumination really is daylight visible and fast.

I'm looking for a DMR optic for a .308, and this might be a good option using a custom elevation dial. Maybe a better alternative for CQB and midrange than the Mark6 1-6x with its finicky illumination.

Also, does anyone know if Leupold can do a custom reticle change or is it pretty much locked-in with the FireDot?

It probably has to do with the VX are SFP and Mark 6 are FFP. To the best of my knowledge, USO is the only company to offer DFP scopes/dot combos, and they come with the higher premium at that. Maybe the Horus equipped Leupold Mark 8 1.1-8x is, not sure there, but it certainly comes with an added premium as well.

Here's BigJimFish 's review of the scope, one of the most comprehensive out there and maybe he'll chime in with some added info. http://www.snipershide.com/shooting...899-review-illuminated-leupold-vx-6-1-6x.html I have no first hand experience with the VX-6, so I'm not going to comment on it's performance.

I will say this about the Mark 6's "finicky" illumination, as I do have one of those. It's over hyped in my opinion. If you have consistent stock weld, any shooter will be fine and never notice it. If you slop it or are forced into overly unusual positions through competition drills, you'll notice the flicker and it may throw you off a bit but it is FAR from debilitating as you still have an easily centered crosshair for reference. It's not an Aimpoint on 1x where you can be all over the tube with little ill effect, but then again an Aimpoint isn't 6x either.

While I've only run it with a green/brown background in east Tennessee, not necessarily the blazing sun and tan background you may come across in open desert, it is perfectly visible in broad daylight at max setting. I suggest you get your hands on one to test, you'll either love it or hate it.

Yep, the VX-6 is SFP and has a fiber illumination system. I do not know of anyone who can manufacture fiber illumination systems in FFP. I expect that this is because the reticle in an FFP scope is actually magnified and so is physically much smaller than in a SPF. Fiber's for illumination are generally pretty bulky and I don't think could be easily reduced in size enough to work in an FFP scope.

As for the availability of different reticles in the VX-6, the "multigun" reticle for it used to be custom shop though now I think online retailers sometimes stock it. So kinda yes, there are or have been custom shop reticle options though I think they can all be had retail at this point.

I had one of the VX-6 Multigun scopes with the SPR Firedot reticle. The dot is very bright. The illumination of the dot is done by means of fiber optic, which is a different method employed by the Mark 6. The problem is that the reticle is very thick. IMO, it does not lend itself well for precision shooting. I also found I disliked the push button illumination. Its a pain to adjust quickly. The dial/rheostat types are much quicker and more intuitive to use.
