Rifle case suggestions. Hard cases only

Nanuk cases
I have 990 and 995
Best case out there for a real hard case or serious case requirements. . Also the top staying open by itself without it tipping and the the handles being spring loaded the way they are is nice. Really good case

I have a stupid amount of hard and soft cases and own at least one of just about everything there is. IMHO if you pay more than $500 for a plastic case they're all about the same.

I don't use hard cases unless I'm traveling, and then only if it's a really long way or I'm flying. There is no reason to be that clumsy or add all that weight unless it's out of your control, and then who gives a fuck if it's heavy and clumsy.

The Case Line cases made by the Kalispel Indians are the best, period. They're solid aluminum and micro-welded. I would take them over the plastic ones for protection, but they are not completely air and water tight like the o-ring sealed plastics. I have several from my Dad, and I bought a double shotgun case in the '90s. They've been on again off again making them over the years (including branding them Cabela's for a short time). I think back then they didn't sell well compared to the plastics since they were so much more expensive, but they really haven't increased in price while the plastic cases have skyrocketed. In 1990 $500 for a case was a ridiculous fortune. They are stupid cheap now compared to the plastic cases that you can get anywhere. I think they could charge double what they currently cost.

There are plenty of good options, including a bunch of cheap chinese copies on Amazon that probably work perfectly well, but for me these are the superlative gun cases.

In fact, I think I'm going to buy a double bow case with wheels right now!

lots of good info on other options. That being said, ive decided im keeping the Pick & Pluck foam. Got it all finished up today and all foam glued into place. Used pieces of the Pick & Pluck cut to size, turned the egg crate lid foam over so the flat side is facing down, and glued pieces into place to firmly hold the rifle at exact center in the foam protection. Also cut away all foam around the scope so that nothing is touching it at all. Used that plastic ammo holder that comes in a box of ammo and glued it into place so that i can keep 20 rounds in the case. All in all, now that i've done all this, i'm pretty happy with the pelican 1770. Keep in mind this is for travel. Ill be looking into a soft case that can be carried like a back pack, but also folds out into a shooting mat for prone.

Here is a nice aluminum model that measures 62" W x 15" H x 7" D. Price seems good too. The only problem is they show a minimum 100 piece order. But if you check into it, they might be able to hook you up with a vendor.

FYI: For those that have access to NEX on base or able to order from the NEX online they are selling various NANUK cases. I got two of the 995's with foam.

I want to say anyone that can register as a vet is able to shop most all military base PX/AAFES/BX/CGPX stores.

+1 Pelican Vault. The latches are butter compared to my other 1700 series. Nice customizable foam. This was for an AI originally but the price was cheap in the PX and works with my Christensen.
