Between the XLR Evolution and the JP AMCS chassis's, which would you choose and why?
This will be for a Remington 700P .308 barreled action, and will be primarily for bench shooting. I get a .mil discount on the JP, so I can get it for $1,000.
Scope is a SSHD 5-20.
Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

IMHO, this is a Ford vs Chevy question & I'd ask which one you think looks better. FWIW, I'm eagerly waiting for my XLR Evolution that's on order.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

need one for coyote gun to just throw in a pack and shoot off sticks! JP Looks badass and not far off on price either! The evolution is lightweight and folds too

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

Given any though to the Mcrees? I just picked one up today and am VERY impressed. He's running a special right now on them to. You would basically get a free 5 rnd, AI mag. Just a thought

Here's a picture of the new chassis:

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

I have given thought to the Mcree's chassis. Of the three it seems to be the one with a minimalist look to it. I like it and don't like it at the same time.
I like the JP since it comes with the PRS stock. If I get it I will get the round forend and shoot off a bipod. What I meant by bench shooting is that I will not be humping this rifle on a hunting trip. This will be my entry into longer range precision.
The upside to the XLR is the cost. The downside is the forearm nut which blocks certain bases from being used, and the fact that I would have to purchase new rings to use with it.
Decisions, decisions.

Please give Scott McCree a call. The function of his product is awesome, backed by a great guy. Plus, his support of LE/Military is the best! CKruse

I love my Whiskey 3 folder...It has a lot of cool details..some of the other chasses look like a 2X4 with holes drilled in it...

My shooting buddy has the benchrest forend on his JP and runs low rings/50mm. If you are running the tube front on JP/XLR/Tac21 you need high or X-high rings. One reason I don't care for those setups. I am a fan of the KRG chassis out of all the ones available. I haven't tried the Cadex yet but I've tried all of the others.

Do you have the folding or fixed stock on your KRG chassis? I dunno if it is worth $350 extra to get the folding option.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

Another very happy McRee customer here, I have Scott's folding TMAG on my 338LM and have been very, very pleased.

Scott's products are top notch and his knowledge and support are second to none. I would really recommend you give him a call and talk to him about what you're wanting to do.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

Yes the folder on the KRG is worth it.

I have looked at alot of chassis systems and the KRG screams quality. the folding mechanism is there own design and not a universal $45 ACE folder held on with two small bolts that can flop around while closed.
The KRG grip has more design points in it than most complete chassis's...some chassis company's install a $12 AR-15 assault rifle grip on there sniper chassis and there done... Hell I don't even like that $12 grip on my AR-15 why would I want it on my precision rifle???

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

The only problems with the XLR is 2 things. You will have to use HIGH rings and if you want adjust-ability well that cost extra. Weight wise its a wash.

Thanks finbox, that pretty much sums it up. Exactly my thoughts. I have the fixed chassis right now because I got my chassis before the folders were ready but I will be installing the retrofit folding mechanism as soon as it gets here. KRG stuff is top shelf.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

I hate to keep dragging this out, but for those of you whom have used the AICS 1.5 chassis and one of the chassis's discussed in this thread, which did you prefer? The reason I ask is because with the current Midway coupon codes I can get the AICS 1.5 for a little over $800, which is significantly less then I would be spending on the XLR or the JP. The the extra $200 would buy a decent amount of ammo, plus I wouldn't have to buy new rings.

That chassis is sick, but by the time you add on all the features the price is more than the JP. Thanks for the link though. Half the fun of this thread is getting to see all the chassis options.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

call me retarded for asking this, but what are the advantages of a chassis instead of a really good quality stock with adjustable accessories???

The reason I am looking for a chassis over say a Manners stock is because I can simply drop the barreled action in the chassis and go vs. having to send the rifle off to be bedded and inletted for a DBM. Plus at this stage in my life I just like the chassis option better.

Re: Rifle chassis choice. Need some help deciding

makes a good point, i had bought a rifle with a mcmillan and it already had the DBM only thing i would need to do is like the badger rail up front for nightvision, i was looking into the eberlestock chassis until i discovered the price. the chassis is fn awesome tho

With the .mil discount the JP chassis is right at $1,000, + it comes with two mags. When I priced the XLR with the discount it came about to a little less before I added mags. I am starting to lean towards the AICS more and more because I can get it for around $830 from Midway and it comes with a magazine.

I was in the same situation. After reviewing each chassis option over and over, I just couldn't find a chassis that seemed to be as comfortable or didn't have all kinds over levers and edges to snag on things on. I wanted a stock with an adjustable cheek piece but with the convienance of a chassis.

Best of both worlds, Manners T4A with a mini chassis installed.

XLR has a bench forend. It is a flat plate that attaches like the picatinny rails.

FWIW, I am running low rings on my XLR. Scope is an IOR 3-18x42.
Just barely fits, I can't use the sunshade. I will eventually get medium rings.
