Rifle for NRL22 matches

1. What rifles are people using for these matches?

2. Does it make a difference between a 16.5" and 20" barrel for these matches?

In open the world is your oyster as far as rifles. Bolt actions are the most common, but you will see everything from 10/22's to $3k+ toggle action anshutz rifles. Pick whatever you like and fits your budget. CZ's are pretty common and easy to upgrade.

Barrel length isn't a big deal. Unless you're trying to mimic a centerfire, most I've met seem to prefer short barrels. Just easier to transition with.

The Vortex HST is ok... maybe not ideal though. Minimum parallax is 50yds on the Vortex and you will be shooting well inside that for NRL. For a more ideal scope I would recommend 1) Parallax 25 yds or less 2) top end magnification above 20x 3) Enough travel for your range. There are lots of great option from Sightron, Athlon and others that won't break the bank. You can certainly make less magnification and longer parallax work, but they sure are nice things to have.

National matches should eventually show up on the NRL22 website calendar.

Local matches will not be centralized, to my knowledge, you will still have to check your local range calendars.

Definitely agree in getting scope with less than 50yd parallax to give yourself best picture

My wife shoots some NRL diciplins that start at 50ft, 16.6 yds.
Some of the Bushnell scopes go that low.

The NRL22 site lists the registered clubs offering matches in the menu. But you then still need to contact that club for further details. Some have links to their calendars some do not.

As far as barrel length, there isn't enough difference in velocity to be concerned either way. I'd be much more concerned with balance and weight. For matches I find a very light weight hunting rifle to hinder compared to a medium weight rifle.

You can get away with that Vortex but you'll need to dial the mag down most if not all the way, even so a 25Y or closer target will be slightly blurry, and parallax might not be dialed out completely.

What rifles are people using, that depends on too many factors, mainly budget. Some guys just want to have fun shooting their 22's and come to learn.

It was funny at our last match. The RO calls me over minutes before the match was to start, and asked me to get a new guy sighted in. The short of it is, the new guys """scope rings and mount""" were loose thus wobbling all over the place so I tightened all them, lol, furthermore I checked the action screw, which needing tightening. Also he was using crappy bulk ammo in his 10-22 with it's nasty 6 lb trigger, and the tupperware stock sucked I might add. I quickly got it sighted in for me at 50Y, the sad thing was that 1.75 inch groups at 50Y was as good as it would do. The other thing is that his 2-7x32 scope with coin adjust turrets and duplex reticle isn't suited for a match at all. He learned some things....

The more serious who compete to have fun but who are also trying to win usually have higher end gear.

I have shot other diciplins as a new shooter and not recived much help till time served.
You guys obviously have a good group.

Luckily the 10/22 is easily upgradeable, i have mine shooting decent with traditional trigger, barrel and match ammo upgrades.
The stock has me worried it's a week point, it's a houge and a slight upgrade from factory but i worry about it.
Had to get rid of my houge on a rem 700, to soft, did like the feel of it.
The 10/22 houge stock appears to have 1 support point forward of the reciver .
So there is 1 action screw and 1 support point holding the shaw 0.92 bull barrel.
I have seen that the magpull stock has 2 adjustable supports in the bed, but the action screw goes into polimer?
Maybe if I had my smith put in a post for the action screw?
Any input would be welcome and hope your new shooter is now a hide member as well.

The 10-22 is a good platform that can be made to shoot extremely well.

Please don't get me wrong here. I know two guys that shoot Kidd 10-22's. One is the Supergrade, another is the Supergrade bought as the barreled action with trigger and put in a nice aftermarket stock. Both those guys win.

They have the advantage of slowing down and managing stages better to make good shots within the time limit because of the semiauto action and the accuracy is nearly what my Anschutz will do. They both use SK and Wolf ammo.

I have a 10-22 race rifle with a Jard trigger, otherwise it's stock. Something is wrong with it right now but before it was reliable and will shoot 3/4" at 50Y. Not great but not bad. I'm about $600 short of turning into a tack driver that fits me correctly/ high quality barrel, chassis system and Kidd bolt.

Grwat timing on post. I am looking for a local nrl22 match myself and wondering what it will take to be competitive. New Ruger rpr 22 and Tikka rimfire will no doubt be showing up soon.

CZ455, 20" barrel, KRG X-ray, Area 419 base, Basix trigger. Bushnell Engage 4-16 soley due to a parallax adjustment down to 10 yards.

Any recommendations for a lefty in these NRL22 matches? Should I look for a LH bolt action 22 or just run a semi auto in a good chassis like a MPA ?
