Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to me

Take a look at my setup at the bottom of my post. It looks awesome, shoots awesome, and most people agree that it's pretty awesome.

However, it's heavy as crap and I've got a bunch of cash in it. I'm seriously considering selling the AICS along with the NF NXS and going to something like a 700p HS precision take off stock, stock bottom metal which I have just bought, and maybe a Super Sniper 10x.

I figure it will weigh a lot less, I won't get too upset if it takes a few hits should I take it into the woods, and I can put quite a bit of cash in my pocket (which will also help me get an engagement ring). But I have a couple questions..

-HS Precision 700p stock or something else? B&C maybe?

-Super Sniper is the only thing I can think of that is a GOOD scope in its pricerange. Yes or am I overlooking a good solid scope in this area?

We all know what opinions are like but I still would like to have your opinions. There aren't any tactical matches in my area and when we shoot, it's always informal. So, what say you?

i say u lift some weights

there are places that can shave weight out of the AICS chasis if you want them to mill it out a bit.

just remember, there is going to a point where every gram is gonna cost you $$$ where u get diminishing returns

I'm gonna take a guess at this. It's okay to say that your selling your favorite rifle to get an engagement ring... It's all good... You have a nice rig. I'm sure she's worth every penny and more. I can't say you will save much weight with another rifle but you probably could trim some fat with another rifle. An HS precision stock, alittle thinner barrel and aluminum base and rings from Seekins, USO, Leupy and then a good Leupy or a SS scope to save some money. SS will be quite a bit cheaper if you go fixed power.. I like their 10 X fixed. Good luck with the engagement / marriage. A good woman is worth every penny.............SmokeRolls

I say sell the stock and do some work on the HS stock and it'll be perfect. I took my HS and ordered a Seekins SRS sling mount applied some texturing to the stock and not it is tits.

The camo rifle is my other one and I just textured that one on Saturday and repainted. I'll get some pics up tonight.

I love the stock but my hand kept slipping off when it was cold under recoil for some reason. That's why I switched to the AICS but you are right... it is a pig. So, I followed the directions on HateCA's site www.rdprecision.net and when to work and I love the result.

agreed the stock is heavy and I think the ltr is a good choice for an economical downgrade w/factory bdl. then I would either switch the scope to a uso st10 or nxs 2.5x10x32 also shaves about 3/4pound. those 2 things alone should shave off at least 3.5lbs. if thats not enough recut the barrel even if it doesn't cut down alot of weight it will feel lighter do to the better balance.

Well if it were me, and my rifle probably FAR outweighs yours, I would cut back the barrel, get a lightweight stock and a Tasco super sniper.

Or just sell it and start over.

Chop the barrel back to 20" and change the stock to a MCM Edge or Manners Carbon stock, that should take off a good 3 pounds.

Well I can help you out....first KEEP YOUR RIFLE. Then buy this wedding set from me (pics below) for $2500.00....cost close to $10K (appraisal papers included) in 2007. It is platinum and the diamonds are very high quality.

Amber does not like platinum or white gold and prefers princess cut diamonds. So this thing sits in the safe doing nothing.

Hmmm, rifle.. prob go up in value.... ring.... pay 10 times what it's really worth... take forever to go up in value. if ya got to sell for some reason you'll take a beating.... GUNS are better investment, and if she leaves ya... she prob won't take the gun.

I gotta say.. I think Stan is throwing you a good idea. Those rings are nice. If your soon to be wife would like these rings, then it's definately worth looking into. Women can be very obstinate on this matter but it is "Their" wedding. It is her special day.....Listen to her and then try to add reason. Don't go in the hole on the wedding if you can avoid it.. You can do a 22" #5 bull sporter barrel fluted, it weighs about 3+lbs chambered. Manners 90% carbon or Mcmillan A3 Edge 2+lbs. Leupold or Vortex scopes 1-1/4lbs. Action 3lbs. That is a 9 to 9-1/2lb rifle complete that will still be very accurate and repeatable. If that's too heavy then by all means sell that rifle too and buy yourself a nice wedding dress

I found the best way to cut a lot of weight was to make the chick run behind the car at about 5 mph.

Take the NF, base, and rings off the rifle and sell it as is. Use what you get plus a little bit for an LTR/SPS 20". Go find a inexpensive ring set for say $100. If she ain't cool with that, well, she ain't cool, see ya later baby! No female is worth all that trouble if she can't have the sensibility to know what an inexpensive ring means:
You get more toys with a cheaper ring, and a lot better stuff. It's just a ring.
Ask PAnty 6 about that. SHe has a really nice small perfect ring, and lots of cool toys, a nice house, straight A kids, all the things a lot of women would kill for who have none of that but wear a big fat three month salary ring

I shoot and hunt. If my wife wasn't ok with me doing those things or asked me to sell my only rifle to pay for our wedding, or a ring, i wouldn't have married her. I try to make her feel special every day. If your into shooting don't give up your rifle or doing what you love. If she's a good woman she will understand.

If you get rid of this, you will regret it. Everytime you get in a fight with your wife, you will hold it over her head. "Bitch, I sold my AICS and NF to buy you this ring!!!!!!" Then she will throw it at you and say, "F**k your ring". Now your sleeping on the couch with a $5000 ring and a rifle that use to resemble your manhood. Just saying...... MuleHunter is dead on. My girl and I both have our hobbies, expensive hobbies lol. We both agreed that our extra money after bills and putting some aside for saving for certain things is extra to be spent as we choose. So I get to buy my guns and she gets to buy clothes and photography stuff (well, I buy the photo stuff too lol)

What is really helping us out with saving for the wedding is that we only have to pay for the caterer, reception hall, photographer, wedding bands, and DJ. My parents are covering the invites and all the paper stuff, her parents are buying her dress, and doing the flowers, and my pastry chef sister is making the cake. Plus it helps that we have friends who are DJs and Photographers.

I guess I have a pretty unpopular opinion on this.
A good woman is very good to have.
A good rifle is good to have.

I have never spent much time in a jewelry department.
I love hanging out where tools are sold.
If a lighter scope will do the job just fine (tool), why spend extra money and add extra weight for a more popular model (jewelry)?

I guess it depends on who's approval you are after.

Kinda reminds me of Robert DiNero in that movie The Mission.

His rifle can be made lighter by using different barrel contours and lighter stocks. I recommended different optics but for me personnally i will use NF or USO. My rifle dry weighs 7.5lbs. A heavy reliable optic in my opinion is a necessary evil. I would rather lighten the rifle and have a bullet proof scope. My total rifle weight will still be about 10lbs which i am comfortable with.

Thanks for all the opinions on the rifle and unexpectedly, getting engaged! Stan, I really appreciate the offer but I've got a good hook up on rings when I need to order them.

I might try going with the 700p stock but leaving the NF on there. I really don't want to lose a bunch of accuracy. This is one heck of a shooting rig that I've shot 1/3moa with on more than one occasion and stovetop357 on here can attest to that.

Well, the AICS is a very heavy stock, as is the AI bipod. I am thinking a McM HTG stock, light fill or a factory HS stock, going with a Harris bipod will shave a lb or so as well. It looks like you have Leupold MK4 or NF rings, you could go with a aluminum ring/base set as well to shave some weight. The Leupold
MK4 scopes are very light if you replace optics.

Congrats on the engagement, your life will never be the same........

dude, your going to take a hit in selling all that stuff!

Cut your barrel back to 18.5"
Then get a McMillan stock made with Edge fill, they are super light and strong or Manners can build you a lightweight stock as well.
Go to hinged floor plate bottom metal. dropping a mag is a lot of the weight.
keep the NF scope!
you could go to dual scope bases instead of solid base.


or you could take some Creatine and get back in the gym..... just saying.
I packed around a 16 pound rifle all day for a hunt and it didnt phase me at all cause u know why? I had a badass rig strapped to my back! and I lift weights... a lot

My own opinion on getting married and having someone you love and more importantly....loves you back equally...is worth more then any rifle. You can always buy a new rifle...I go through rifles so fast I loose track of them all. Finding "the one" comes around but once per life time IMHO....I have been through many women and was married once before I met Amber.

My wife is my best friend. And I would sell everything I own to keep her if need be...and ...as long as she in return did the same for me.

Another good 10X scope is the Burris 10X50XTR natchezzs has them on sale now for $560. I don't own one but have read good things about them. I have a 6X24 XTR and it is good glass and good turrets. Sell the stock and get another lighter stock. Women dogs and kids, they see how much they can push and get away with. You just have to be firm sometimes after the initial hissy fit they calm down and will respect your decision making abilities. The more you give the more they take. Good luck.
