Well I just got a backorder filled for 15k
Considering we made 97,000 9mm in a few months I’m hoping it’ll last me a month or two for my customers to shoot.
Don't know, was going to make them available to Quantico Shooting Club members at cost.
Yea I did not think they would go through, another weird thing was you could only select 5000 not 1000.
Yea, but I have plenty of reloading stuff, and can wipe my butt anytime I want...
Picked up 100 CCI No.35 Primers today at
Adventure Sports in Lynnwood
They were 59.95 per 100.
I only tried to get 100 as I only have 100 rounds of 50. I don't know if they have a limit but they do have more.
They also have a limited supply of powders. They did not have any other primers.

I like the idea of having enough primers to load all 100 rounds of ammo that I have for the 50.
Not that I have any place to shoot the gun at this time.

I don’t have my catalog but i recall from $.30-.50 be about normal.

Is it me or does it seem like not much is going on in the background?
It's pretty clearly a staging area for shipping - what do you expect to be happening there?
How anyone can watch that and not understand primers are still being produced for the consumer market, albeit at a fraction, is mind boggling

Basic PR is stay relevant, stay top of mind, even through "bad" press. So if they get people talking about some outlandish thoery about choking supply, well done.
That video sucks anyway. Basically - We're making primers but we're not selling them unless there is extra from our own use for our ammo which we're making 24/7 also. So f' reloaders.

If primers are going to ammo manufacturing first, does that mean any small reloading manufacturer selling reloads and some new ammo can get primers?? Anyone here in the business?

Your right. But do the small manufacturers still get supplied? They can always sell to a retailer who might want to help some good customers...just thinking outside the box.../I learned in the first panic...;
The primers im getting are from suppliers that only deal with manufacturers. They are getting some, but maybe 15-25% of what they use to get in orders.
I saw a you tube video from a guy who I think is in Kansas, but I'm not 100% on that.
He sells guns and ammo. He said he can make 65,000 rounds a day if things are normal. He is buying primers off of Gunbroker and is a year from selling ammo to anyone who doesn't buy a gun from him, this is pretty common in small shops.
My conclusion would be the small guys are not getting primers. If you see the video it looks like he has about a half dozen 1050"s set up in his shop.

I have 12 Dillon 1050’s all with Mark7 autodrives. For one, I doubt he can make that much ammo a day these machines need constant attention and a set of eyes on them constantly. The biggest downfall is primer feeding, this system only allows for 100ish in the tube. So unless you have a primer person you constantly need to stop to reprime. Yes we have the Dillon primer tube machine, 2 for large, 2 for small.
We are getting primers, have been since March. Not as many as we use to get nor is it to our advantage to sell individually. For the range if I sell a box of 100primers for small pistol (9mm) at say $5, hell let’s say $10, I lose on selling the customer $30-40 in ammo plus their range fee of $20.
so I’m gonna say that’s the same issue across the board. If federal can’t keep up with ammo sales, they aren’t gonna try to sell primers at a fraction of the profit. But primers are coming in. We got a backorder recently that was 15k. That’ll hold us over for a bit more. The biggest thing is you gotta constantly searching, I have several distributors I use for reloading and I’m constantly calling or emailing to see what they have that’ll work.
That's an incredibly mis informed opinion. You also seem to be forgetting the competitions mentioned on this forum are just a tiny segment of the competition shooting world.
My opinion based on my shooting and observing the range is that for every 1 competition or reloader on my range, I have 200 casual shooters and hunters.
Competitive shooters as a whole are a very small niche market, from pistol to shotgun. Sure you’ll have some shooters that shoot 50,000 a year. But for factory you’ll have 50,000 that shoot 300-500rds a year. The volume of ammo they need far outweighs the competitive world. All the academy’s & walmarts across the nation are sucked dry instantly as trucks arrive, I doubt it’s competition guys buying up all that ammo.
I think there is a difference of perspective (micro vs macro) in the reading of the statements rather than being mis-informed.
At a macro level, the sheer number of casual shooters and occasional plinkers is a greater cause of this shortage than reloaders for the reasons stated - just more of them.

I KNOW that competitors are a small part of the ammo market by numbers. I also know that even though they prob shoot a lot more than your average Fudd, their total consumption is still small compared to, for example, deer hunters. Matter of fact, I didn’t mention competition shooters at all. I did say reloaders
i shot registered skeet for a very long time. Maybe 15 years ago I knew a VP of Remington who shot skeet in the mid-Atlantic region. In response to complaints about the high cost of 28 ga and 410 target ammo, his reply was that it’s such a small market compared to hunting shot shell that they produce the entire year’s worth of 28 ga STS in one week.
Nonetheless, they, Federal, and Winchester still sponsored top skeet competitors w ammo just as Krieghoff and Kolar sponsored them w guns.
And why? Because they know the guy coming to the range looks to these top shooters and tries to emulate what the use. They want to know if Bender shoots 8.5 or 9’s, what chokes Giambrone uses, what length barrel does Armstrong shoot, etc, etc, etc. Competitors and serious shooters (e.g. AAA/AA shooters in skeet) are highly visible and very valuable brand ambassadors.
That’s why the WHAT THE PROS USE articles on Accurate keep getting published and read.
And, IMO, metallic cartridge reloaders also tend to be serious and experienced shooters that others look to emulate.
and even if not, reloaders are still a loyal market segment, who will still be around and buying when all this current foolishness is over, and my opinion is the this they are making a mistake in only releasing primers that are in excess of what they can stuff into a case.
I’m certainly not advocating that the ammo manf prioritize reloaders over finished cartridges production. But they are a market segment and IMO they should be given an allocation of primer production and not just be given the just extra to finished ammo production requirements.

This reminds me of something I have been thinking about for a while.
As this will be my first year shooting PRS style matches, I have shot USPSA for way longer than a long time and still will pick my spots and shoot some matches.
I am assuming we will see a decline in match participation because of ammo/component shortages. I know a lot of guys bought ammo because PSA sold 9mm for 170$ a case shipped. Many guys don't even reload.
I'm curious about the "pro"/sponsored shooters. These are the guys that shoot 50,000 rounds a year. I've always said GM is only 50,000 rounds away. I wonder how they will fare this season? I follow one dude on IG, Josh Froelich. He is from Minnesota and heavily sponsored by JP Rifles and Federal. He shoots USPSA PCC and 3 gun, plus a lot of outlaw type rifle matches as well. I wonder where guys like that will fall in the pecking order???????????
Even when times are good, your favorite powder, bullet, or brass can go out of stock for months at a time. Plus buying bulk usually maximizes hazmat or can sometimes qualify for free shipping or bulk discounts. I’m set for this season and next, but will we be caught up by 2023? Hopefully!
Well here in SoTex PRC we haven’t been hit super hard with lack of components. At the last couple of matches we had a good, not great showing, Covid was a factor in attendance as well. I talk to a lot and many had already bought prior to this so no big suffering. I only know of a few USPSA shooters like Mel Rodero, Team Infinity, he’s still shooting matches across the country but I’m sure his practice sessions are way less then before. The shotgun shooters I know, Shea Self (daughter of a good friend), won World Hélice a year ago still shoots but same, practice sessions are not as big as before.
