Any one use rifle rods in their gun safe? I am interest to hear what you think of them if you have. It looks like a decent way to get more out of your safe.

I installed the system in October and I am pleased with the results. I was able to place 6 more large rifles in my cramped safe, which was my goal. I just could not justify the expense of another safe, because my "overflow" wasn't enough. The rods are long and strong enough to keep 13.5 lb rifles upright and immobile. I used a staple gun with longer staples to attach the velcro to my top shelf. You will have to adjust the shelf height to accomodate longer barrel rifles "26" and this will result in having to put AK's and AR's on small shelves on safe floor. I found ammo cans worked well. An alternative is to cut a slot or holes in your top shelf for the longer barrels and adjust shelf height for the majority of your long guns. The company shipped everything out next day and items arrived without delay. I spent a couple of hours on install and rearranging guns as far as frequency of use. Qverall the $120.00 I spent is small compared to the loss of even 1 long gun due to fire or theft or the $800-$1500 for another safe.

ALASKAPREDATOR - thanks for the input. My thoughts were along your lines. I really don't want to purchase another safe right now and at the same time see some wasted space I could take advantage of using the rods.
I like the ammo can idea too.

I've had the rods for about a year, and really like them for organization.
On my good match guns, I put a little electrical tape around them where they touch the crown.
Probably not needed, but it's easy to do.

I see several issues here.
1. These rods will be touching the inside of the barrel at some point. It's impossible for them not to touch the inside surface. They even give you the perfect example of what not to do with their product (though they don't say that)...install your pistols on the rods horizontally so the rod has to slide down the upper surface of the barrel. Plastic or plastic coated, there's potential for unwanted wear.
2. Cramming that many guns into a safe just makes it that much more inconvenient to get to the stuff in the back. So ultimately, the rods actually make it harder by encouraging you to put more guns in your safe.
3. Corrosion issues will loom as that close proximity doesn't allow for airflow around the firearms which can cause corrosion particles to spread even faster. The same problem could start with the lack of airflow in the barrel due to the rod being inside.
4. That little rubber tip on the rods could come off and lodge in the barrel or action. If you're not religious about checking your firearms, you could have a BIG problem.
5. Scratch and dent: I hope you're ok with owning a true scratch and dent firearm becuase with the close proximity that is encouraged with this product, you're 100% more likely to scratch a firearm than you would have been before. (unless you just crammed them in anyway where there wasn't space)
6. What idiot actually hangs a handgun from a shelf bottom on a rod directly over the muzzles of long guns? If it falls, something gets damaged, likely both firearms. I won't discuss the reaching over the muzzles of those long guns. I certainly don't want stuff hanging from a shelf bottom over my scoped rifles. That's just asking for an accident.
I'll rent some safe-space to someone if needed, especially if it means getting another safe or building a safe-room (I need a reloading room anyway).

I worried about many of those things also, but they work really well.
The old way with the racks, everything just ends up getting piled up, it seems.
This way, the unused guns get lined up in the back and the more used ones are easy to get to in the front.
I placed some 1/4" thick foam rubber on my floor, the butt sinks into it and keeps them really solid.
All your short stuff (AR carbines, etc) you will need to set up higher on an ammo can or something, I stacked up some 2x6's on the side wall.
You can get at least 30% more guns in it, and you don't have to rearrange your safe every time you get a gun out.
I have a Golden rod and keep some indicating silica gel in my safe and have never had problems with corrosion.
I only have a couple of the pistol things I keep on the outside 2 edges, as I think they would be in the way if they were out in the middle.
I'm pretty happy with mine.

I have been using them for a couple years and would not go back to the old set up. It is much easier to get items in and out without banging guns together. I used to almost dread getting guns out of the back of the safe and my short barrel items were just leaning against each other. I did have to make a few "benches" to get some SBRs up high enough to work. I would recommend them. I have not had any problems with rust before or after. I have more room now and much less hassel. I don't worry about the rods being inside the barrels. They are non absorbant and pretty soft plastic.

I grabbed a set of the handgun hangers yesterday at a local show. They work good for the lighter guns and smaller sights. For instance, my .44 Mountain and 686 causes them to sag badly, bigger sights will rub on the top. For .22's,the cap needs to be removed.

I would not feel comfortable with leaving a rod in the barrel of my gus. Would just bother me.

TXBRASS: A plastic rod inside your barrel would not hurt the groves in the barrel.... They are all softer than the barrel and it's not like they are repeatedly inserted and taken out many times....Just trying to reasure... I like the idea.....It does make sense when trying to fit alot of riffles / pistols in a confined space.....Just my opinion...SmokeRolls
