Guys after a god shooting day I had some not so cool stuff happen, one thing led to another and lets just say there is now sand, everywere, it was in the barrel, its on the bolt face so it may be all through the action and throught, and I dont know how to go about cleaning it out.

You guys why have been out in the sand, what did you do to clean em?

Wait until everything in thoroughly dry. Get the sand off the scope, around the eye piece and turetts with a stiff tooth brush or equivelent.

take a hose to the action, and spray it out real good, towel or use a air blower attatched to a compressor, then oil thoroughly.

Water wont hurt it, its the best way to get sand off.

If you can get your hands on some distilled water (no minerals) you can lightly flush the lenses with that. Then, take some 4x4 gauze and lightly dry the lenses in a dabbing motion. That will take care of your scope. After the scope is done, cover the lenses and hose the rest of the rifle off.

Sand can kill optics- so take your time.
Use a lens brush with soft, long bristles-any camera store. Also use, low pressure, FILTERED, compressed air to blow particles out while you brush. Any contact of the glass other than the brush should be done with a microfiber cloth and little or no pressure. You can use Ethyl alcohol on the lenses- with caution
If the contamination is severe, I'd consider removing the optic. Otherwise, cap the lenses off after you clean them and tape them shut with masking tape-then go to town on the action and barrel with compressed air and long wooden-handled swabs like Q-tips but available at better pharmacies.

That's <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">EXACTLY</span></span> what we did in the 82nd ABN! It really did do a good job.

Grab the hose and spray away.

Don't be afraid of water. Your rifle isn't.

If you have access to compressed air, blow all the water out. DO NOT blow compressed air on the lenses of your scope. Some air lines will have oil in them. Not good for the lenses.

Break it out of the stock and oil it down when you are done.
