ELR Rimfire is now a thing and first event is on.

ELR Central rules ,targets to be 12" x 12" and no targets closer than 200 yards. Shooting at 5 targets, and working out from 200 and target 5 in the 500 to 600y range

I'm curious, what is the ammo of choice for these .22 precision competitions? I assume no one reloads .22 ammo, so what factory offerings are consistent enough for this type of shooting?

Some fine tunign to rules is still going on and so far handloaded ammo if anyone wants to bother with it is allowed .you want a subsubonic match round with highest consistency in regards to ES SD ,Lapua Midas+ , X-act ,RWS R-50 , Eley Tenex etc and one for which you can get best posible data on BCs

Thats a lot of drop to account for too, I wonder what sort of mounts will be used for 22 ELR.

Normally I use a H59 reticle with plenty of holdover after the 26 mils of travel are used up in the scope, via a 28moa mount .

We are regulary shooting 200m in our rimfire PRS type shoots and not always prone nor target as large as 12x12

Sure 500-600y records might not be claimed in first run , but that is the point , kinda like in Ko2M most competitors end their run at some 2000y and it took 4 or so years to land a first hit at a 2 miles.

But is like centerfire ELR just with level playing field and low costs.

I use a scope with 37mil travel and will custom make a 50 or 60 moa rail for now i play mostly at 300 to 400 which i can do withou the angled rail, but for most distances you could go with 25 moa DIP and use the reticle for last target if you make it to there

Great thing about this ELR rimfire as i can from x discipline into ELR stup just by changing the scope.

Now Playing with following scopes on my hands.
Sightron SV 4.5-24x56 30mil
IOR Recon 4-28x50 -37mil
Delta Striker HD 4.5-30x56 - 30mil

IOR i is for me tried and i tested over and over for years on international comps and is dead accurate so till i test the other two more extensively its the first choice. But IOR migth in mean time move onto centerfire ELR rig so Delta Stryker migth be the final choice.

Will use an Anschutz 1913 single shot in BR stock (i am manufacturing those) but for ELR with lightweight mini F class bipod instead of the rest as i think they are better suted to ELR

Will refrain for using my PRS plank , literaly a 2$ plank used as stock ,a150$ Chicom action ,custom EDM trigger ,250$ bipod and 2000$ scope , a combo that works.

Very nice collection of unusual, but super nice scopes:
* Sightron SV 4.5-24, as best as I can tell, is only sold at one camera store.
* IOR Recon is made in Romania, has AO focus, and can focus at 21 feet @ 28X.
* Delta Stryker has to be imported from Slovenian reseller (and Delta Optic's website is in Polish only).

I didn't realize Magpul offered a line of stocks in natural cellulose.

I understand you wanting to take the rimfire to an extreme distance, and bring more people into this new, and exciting sport. But Many people dont have the range to shoot 500+ yards. ( thats one of the reasons people started shooting rimfire) . I would like to see something like this to maybe 350 yds max, with different size plates. At 350 yds, its still hard as hell to get everything right.

I am runing a rimfire PRS league on my end and will in next comps add bonus stage with 250 and 300y targets to test the folks a bit

Over the years have participated on all sorts of tactical/practical/military sniper comps , in centerfire that meant ranges in 1000-2000y class, and one thing that makes rimfire accesible is that many more ranges can accomodate it , so this season i set up a rimfire PRS league to hone the skils and new people learn to shoot better on a budget and on short range,Rimfire ELR is for me just an aditional step to make a better, more rounded shooter , as with rimfire PRS guys are learning realy fast to shot well from many positions but with mostly sub 150y distances the balistics part is kinda neglected a dope card at such distances is good year round. Rimfire ELR brings balistics work with it .

ELR centerfire is extremely costly ,ranges involved make it almost imposible to even try for most shooters. If you have followed Ko2M they hit the 2 mile only after couple of years and record 3hits on 3 shots is around 2000y similar is to be expected in rimfire . In Rimfire 300y might be done deal but past that it might take some time.

Like you sugested you could run 350y if that is all you can , practice will make you a better rounded shot no mater if you ever go past that distance.

The Big Sky ELR rimfire comp boss man is Jeff of Longrangeonly , i hear Vudoo Gun Works is bringing bunch of demo rifles to shoot on the 100 yard bay and Lapua has got you covered with ammo, during this time. ,

I cannot claim rimfire ELR, but our first rimfire PRS style match included two stages at 200 yards, 219 and the last one at 328 (300 meters). One of the stages at 219 was three shots at a shaving cream can with the first worth 12 points if you hit it, if you took two shots and hit it, it was worth 6 points and if you hit it on the third shot, it was 3 points. About half the shooters hit a can. So about a 2-1/2" wide target at 219 yards (200 meters). Good fun.

With a 50yrd zero my experience in elevation is: 100yrds/2mils, 200yrds 6.7mils, 300yrs 14mils. Lots of fun especially if its windy. At the range people can't believe a 22lr can shoot that far.

Its down to wind cals , wind makes .22 ELR hard not the drop

Popular PRS 6mm cartriges run those 6.7mil drops at a 1000y ,that put some perspective on scale.

I fly to plenty of matches but this one is still a bit far for the time being.
But that is why we are doing our own . We synced the rules and COF with LRO and ELR Central so that we are all on same page with level playing field even with pond in between.

Good read, pretty neat seeing what we've been finding put into a well thought out article but i have no idea what he was talking about when he started with the squigly line math stuff. Overall his findings match up with what those of us that shoot those distances have found. Bet that would be a fun match to shoot. Thanks for sharing it with us.

While I often like the squiggly line math stuff, I'll admit that shooting and observing results and applying basic ballistic applications by computer to get those results works fine for me. But then I am not competing at any level beyond a fun local event with the.22 ELR and only once at that. I'll do it again though.

How long before someone comes out with a true elr bullet? Maybe something with a much better bc than what's being offered now.

At present 60g bullet could add better BC to same MV , at present only such ammo is Aguila 60g subsonic sniper ,designed for use in silenced firearms , the big issue is needing a faster twist rate to stabilise making the round not very usefull in miriyad of standard .22LR rifles.

Making quality rifmire ammo is near voodo magic in comparison with making good centerfire ammo so don't expect any moves ,except some crazy dude handloading something in his shed.

Green Mt. makes a 1-9 twist 22lr barrel.

I run an old Bausch & Lomb 10X Tactical. It has an incredible 144 minutes of travel. The glass is crystal clear, but with 12moa per revolution it is easy to get lost.
