I am going to be putting a S&B 5-25x56 scope on a Remington long action equipped with a MARS rail as a base. I tried a go at palmik's "Ring Height Info - How to Measure Correctly" thread, but it is somewhat hard to figure out when I don't have the scope or rifle with the MARS rail yet. I am simply seeking info so I won't waste my time in the future. Ultimately, I'm looking to get the lowest height as possible, with still having clearance between the objective bell of the optic and the barrel/MARS rail.

Any suggestions?

Re: Ring height for MARS rail?

The pvs 22 and 27 are 1,5" high. So My recomendation is à mount with as close as possible height for that. If not are going to use NV i would remove the mars rail.

We have the MARS rails at work and we use MK4 High rings which are 1.06 I think. They clear 50mm's fine.. so something a bit higher for your 56 would work.

The rifle that I plan on buying comes with a 30 MOA MARS rail, which is the reason I asked. </div></div>

Weight/size, price, they are expensive for what they are. They often come loose after heavy recoil, even with the larger screws. The actual ring mounting part of the rail is pretty high(I assume to help line up the NV optic). IMHO you would be better off selling it and getting a Badger EFR or the like. But thats just my opinion.

Re: Ring height for MARS rail?

I think I am going to opt out of the MARS rail (the rifle build include the MARS rail, but I don't have to have it if I don't want it.

Instead, I think I will go with the NF 40 MOA base and the Badger IMUNS. That should save me about $100 to put forth on ammo.

From personal experience you will be glad you go that route. I have not had much luck w/ the MARS rail and actually shit canned it and did the same thing. Much better system to go with the IMUNS.
